Michigan Synth Work MSW-820

I thought about this too.

It’s that same color purple as cheap Chinese PCBs.

Looks real unpleasant to my eyes.

I really don’t need another analog mono synth, but I think this is an incredible option for the price. Sounds great

it reminds me my KT sq1d

Apparently, it’s not purple. I got the email: Pre-orders are up with delivery in April and a 15% discount on the normal $499USD for early orders.

I’m all monosynthed out at the moment but this is a beauty!

Pretty tempted, a modern MC-202 module

Edit: jumped on
Edit: chickened out

Nice - That’s a generous discount on what is already a pretty reasonable price tag. The 810 is/was a fantastic synth and built like a tank. Looking forward to this one!

same, post popped up on ig, went and got my pre-order. Strange I didn’t get an email notification that pre-orders were up though

Super nice price. The eurorack module is tempting me. One of the things that I like most about the format is that every connection is surface level and you don’t have to reach around the back. It’s the little things.

Thankfully it’s not that colour
But it’s 23cm wide, and Digitone is 22.5cm, could be a good combo.

The knobs are a bit tall for my taste…

So now that presumably at least some people have received theirs and it’s widely available for order from your preferred retailer, what’s the consensus?

I‘d also be interested to hear from actual users about a comparison to SH01a if possible:

  • sound
  • interface/handling
  • form factor in relation to a digi or Tonverk

I‘m NGNY and don’t think I want to replace my 01a, but am open to hear the argument . It kinda looks like a dream synth for me!

It’s a really flexible bit of kit, slightly different as it uses the roland design but isn’t trying to full replicate it. My main gripe would be that the attenuator for the filter, essentially the EG, is limited by how open or closed the filter is, so you’ll have to adjust your cutoff based on how bright or dark you want your sound to be. For instance, with attenuator all the way up and filter at like 10, you’ll get a dark sweep, but if you move the filter to 12 or 1, you’ll get a brighter sweep. Also, the sub is linked to Osc1. beyond that, having quite a bit of filter options is awesome. It also has digital waves that can be used too. The manual is a really concise, quick read to view some features: https://misw.us/MSW-820UserGuide.pdf.

Despite a brief comms issue with MSW after my unit’s regulator busted twice from an inline switch, that’s getting resolved and I should have my unit back next week to do some comparisons with the sh01a.
