MFB-503 Opinions / Experience?

Looking for some smaller/lighter gear for shows. I love the MFB Nanozwerg, and the MFB-503 looks equally powerful and unique. Thoughts, opinions, critiques?

the sound is great. its a but confusing for programming at first but once you get its easy. the buttons are very small and a bit janky, but its cheap, very small, and sounds good. for live it might not be as good because its mostly menu for the prams.

if you really want something good for live id say the tanzmaus. i think the samples sound better. it has knobs for most of the setting so really works awesome live. its not as cheap though and a bit bigger.

for me, the 503 hats have a body/noise balance that turns me off. On the small/light tip, have you looked at the Cyclone TT-606? Or if you really want the 909 sound, the TR-09?

Not necessarily looking for a 909 clone. Looking for a small box with a few nice/flexible analog sounds. I already have the Tr8.

The price gap is pretty huge though lol. I never see the Tanzmaus for less than 1000USD while the 503 was 240USD.

The buttons do seem small.

The kick is what bought me mostly.

Curious what kind of music most people used it for. (?)

Then I definitely suggest the TT-606

You defibitely got me thinking, but I do love the sounds of the Tr8 606 tbh. but with the 502 at 240USD… is it not a steal?

Do you recall how the drive sounded? Seems like a nice feature.

Hmm not sure what your talking about but tanzmaus new is like 500 usd. I got mine used for 375 . Hey theirs one on reverb right not for 470 you could offer lower.

re: price difference MFB-503 and MFB Tanzmaus

you realize the 503 is like 10 years old?
tanzmaus is from around 2016…

:joy: My bad. I was thinking of the Tanzbar. You’re right.

The drive is the tanzmaus is ok but its very subtle. I would have like one that went to more exstream. I think the 503 had a kick distortion as well.

You’re right! Does that matter much though? Plenty of old gear holds its value.

Just not sure the Tanzmaus has really spoken to me much. Not really looking for a minimal techno box (not to diminish its sounds - just not my target).

Got one since 2000.
It´s a murder machine.

The tanzmaus is the 503 upgrade. 503 is sort of the 909 for mfb. If you dont like the tanzmaus you wont like the 503. The tanzmaus is more versatile then the 503. I think the analog rytm mk1 would be more what your looking for. I see used prices on them 600-800 usd. If you wait for a month befor and after x-mas i bet they go down further. Though you will have to look every day till one pops up with a good price. If you got the 503 for 270 i am sure you can flip it for more if you didnt like it.

I’ve had that hunch for awhile! I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled.

I guess that´s because old MFB gear is often reported to have a bit… JUNKY build quality

(I´ll be genuinely sad if you don´t acknowledge that brilliant pun re: your username btw ^^)
