Hello,
I’m a perspective Octatrack purchaser who decided to read Merlin’s handy guide before ever touching a physical unit. Suffice to say, I found it illuminating, though I suspect it’ll need to be revisited once or twice after purchasing a unit (which may or may not be in my immediate future thanks to the allure of Eurorack).
Anyhoo, after finishing up, I came away curious about some of the examples used (notably the repeated reference to “build ups”), and it slowly dawned on me that I have little to zero context for who this person is, or what kind of music she makes.
After a quick search through Google and this forum, I found little more than a litany of references to the guide’s worth.
As one who doesn’t even own an Octatrack yet I’m hesitant to post another thread (two is enough), but after all the good this person has seemed to have done for the community, I’d be remiss not to ask.
Who is s/he?
Is (his/her?) music online?
As a historian, I can’t resist.
edit: And yes, I post this more as an academic curiosity, but it is also a functional one as well – in the scene and pattern examples, the guide can’t help but presuppose a genre, one I presumed was dance floor techno in approach. However, it never actually spelled that out explicitly. It would also just be cool to #1 support somebody who has been so gracious with their time (at least by listening) and #2 hearing the Octa (and perhaps these tips) in action.
