Anyone using Melodyne for sampling? I’m just wondering how good is it at manipulating polyphonic samples and extracting midi from polyphonic samples. Also, what version would you recommend for using it for sampling purposes?
For instance, if I can find exposed instruments in tracks, how good is it at changing the audio to midi so that I can port that over to my own virtual instruments and manipulate that (both melodic and drums).
Also, how good would it be at say manipulating audio of say a piano or something that I sample from a record.
How hard is it to learn? This is one program that has always intrigued me but I’ve never been brave enough to buy it.
I had melodyne pro the full version during 1 month for testing when I bought Studio One.
I tested a bit and it’s very very good at what you asked.
The polyphonic detection work very good to extract instruments from each other.
The pro version is very expensive but it’s incredible. The free version works only in mono, it’s good for voice tuning if your singer made a mistake at some point.
The audio to midi in with melodyne in studio one is simple as drag and drop. Detection is almost always perfect if the sample is clean. If you use an old black metal cassette recorded in a cave you can have some error but in any case it’s easy to fix and you have a starting base to work with.
You are a computer producer, I encourage you to add melodyne to your arsenal
Thanks! Yeah, it’s tempting. I figure I’ll wait for Black Friday and see if there is a sale. It seems like a dream come true for sample manipulation and also extracting drum grooves and using virtual kits (or instruments) to avoid clearance issues and stuff (not that I’m actually releasing any music).
