DN2 is sending all kinds of midi cc to different devices using all 1-16 channels
MD’s BASE CH is set to – (even done this on every global slot just in case)
MD’s PC IN is set to 16 (DN2’s PC OUT is likewise 16)
MD’s CTRL IN is set to ON (otherwise transport stops)
Despite this, MD is reacting to midi CC sent to channel 2 (LFO controlling midi CC from DN2) and others, effectively messing up a bunch of parameters all the time. Everything else works fine, including PC.
What am I doing wrong? Could this be an X firmware related type of thing?
How is this routed? Have you tried the DN2 connected directly to the MD with no other devices? I would try this first with no splitter or thru box or midi router, just one into the other.
I’d also check the midi coming out of DN2 with a midi monitor and make sure that the LFO CC is only reading as coming from channel 2.
That’s probably where I’d start, and if it’s still weird I’d set up new projects and only set the DN up to trigger 2 events, one being something going to the MD on whatever channel you’re using now and another being your LFO on channel 2 and see if there’s still crosstalk with the new projects and them plugged directly into each other.
If it works fine, try adding some of the other stuff you’ve been sending and see if there’s a point where the issue occurs, once it’s sending a certain volume of data. At some point, if it doesn’t reproduce the issue and if you’re using a thru box or a splitter, plug that back in and see if the issue pops up, because maybe there’s a problem with it.
If you’re running a midi chain setup instead of a splitter, definitely try it with only the 2 boxes. Not sure what else to suggest without more info, hopefully it’s something simple though.
Also, it never hurts to try a different midi cable.
It’s routed from DN2 to the rest via two (daisy chained) Midi Solutions Quadra Thrus. I tried routing from the DN2 directly to MD with a different cable, to no avail (unless MD could be still hallucinating the DN2 LFO somehow after switching cable, that would be crazy).
Will try the rest in the morning, bedtime here in Sweden. Thanks for taking the time shig, appreciate it!
Hmm, I thought it was only for a power issue, but midi solutions web page specifically notes the MD as one of the devices which is known to have problems with their products. I don’t know if that’s at all related though!
I’ll look for it on their page.
Mmm looks like it’s just for the original midi solutions, not the multi-voltage stuff. And it’s supposedly just a powering issue because these products require parasitic power to function. I don’t think it’s related to your issue but it could be a defective product without being specific to the MD issue.
Weirdly enough, it didn’t happen today. Nothing is different connection wise or with anything else. So hweird… will have to take notes when it happens again and maybe revive this thread
