Which of today’s elektrons is highest bid on eBay?
(My pension advisor asked me to provide some terminal value on my “investments”)
#1 SID Station
#2 MD UW
#3 1st gen OT
…
#8 original Elektron product decals
I’ll PM my address and fee schedule.
None
Because in the future we make music with our thoughts. Implants in our head will produce Sound which is injected into our Hearing System directly. Fully connected human bodies will allow us to inject what we’ve just made into the brain of someone walking close to us. And we will use Implants to talk to each other because: Using our mouth needs unnecessary biologic energy which wont be tolerated since our earth was harvested to a degree that every ressource counts.
Oh - wait - you meant 2040? Well, my bet goes for the Machinedrum!
Heat, AK and MD are my missing elektron pokemons.
I wonder will eurorack still be around in 2040?
I agree: I expect to have some sort of brain implant (at a small daily fee from google or facebook) that can deliver inner ear streaming of my imagined music creations without actually getting out of bed and opening my eyes in 2040.
Heat so far seems like a likely contender for the 2040 highest bid in my mind. I’ll have an aux out/fx return socket behind my ear to beef up my everpresent (google or facebook) audio stream.
Probably the limited edition blue and red boxes, the mnm keys and the sidstation. OTmk1 will be up there too
3D printed OT mk1 replicas will be available for download for under $50 of metal and plastic textile tubes for your home printer.
Behringer 3D printers
It will be all about the elegance of embedded inaccessible code rather than hardware which will be easily replicated.
‘Writing’ an Octatrack or a Digitone will still be a feat of work. Reproducing it physically with no OS will be relatively cheap (unless we run out of plastic and metal at low prices)
The ones that are Overbridge enabled, of course!
Wait, will they even have bridges in the future?
Overbridge will be like water under the bridge.
My apologies to those unfamiliar with this idiom.
Elektron’s next retro-futurist drum machine. Start saving now for this gem from 2030.
Will my OT Mk 1 on ebay, sell for more than a new boxed OT5 Mk II (should be about there in 2040) which will retail for about $35,000 with inflation, same price as a cheap midi controller in today’s money.
Hmm, tough call. I might hold out for the Hexadecatrack with 64 petabytes of RAM and 16 voice polyphony.
$35,000 though? That’s like 3 gallons of gas in 2040.
May 16th, 2040
I thought this was Overbridge release date ! ![]()
So I should keep my OT and my MD until that day ? ![]()
Somewhere farther along in OB’'s Product Map is ‘Licensing OB to 3rd Parties’ where elektron sells an OB-USB chip to Korg, Moog, Roland, DSI and eurorack manufactures to embed in their new products to seamlessly stream multitrack audio to your PC/Mac.
Elektron Robotakt, Monophon and Dronyphon, followed by the Behringer Machinedrum-, Monomachine- and Digitone-, Digitakt- and Octatrack-Clone.
SFX-6 since it is by far the rarest at only 500 pieces made.
Also because by 2040 civilisation will have collapsed the SFX-6 will make the best club to fight off the zombie hoard.

They will all be useless by then.
Don’t bother
