Max patch for effect parameter mapping in Ableton Live

Hi there,

First time user of the forum, annnd also a fairly recent owner of a Digitakt - which has been a lot of fun during isolation

I have created a Max for Live patch that maps Digitakt effect parameters (delay, reverb, overdrive, panning) to equivalent Ableton parameters, for those using overbridge and want to have an individual channel for each track, while still making use of the effects in some way.

From my short time lurking on this forum, I’ve noticed some other people have asked for this functionality - so I figured I’d share my patch with the world.

Documentation/download is here

Questions/comments/bugs/feedback all welcome! This patch is my first experience with Max.

Looks amazing, and exactly what I was looking for! Some questions:

  • Do you have to create 8 MIDI VST tracks for this? This line seems to say that you do

The above screenshot shows track one’s parameters mapped. Repeat for all seven remaining tracks!

  • Are the effects from the Digitakt saved as automations on the audio tracks?
  • Do you have to create 8 MIDI VST tracks for this? This line seems to say that you do

Sorry if I wasn’t clear - I wanted to create a video demonstrating the patch, but spent a good part of my weekend resurrecting my blog as well haha! I’ll polish the instructions in the coming days.

You only need a single MIDI track that houses the Digitakt’s overbridge VST plugin

You will need to map each parameter for each track (eg, T1 Amp Delay, T2 Amp Delay etc) inside the device… In my screenshot, I have only mapped track one’s parameters.

It’s kinda verbose, but you only have to do it once as you can save default configurations.

You will have to create 8 audio tracks, that each contain the Digitakt Mapper patch.

Are the effects from the Digitakt saved as automations on the audio tracks?

Yes, they should be - as you adjust a knob on your Digitakt, it will also change the Sends/effect parameter inside Ableton… this should then get recorded as automation

Wow. This seems amazing! I usually record one track at a time, to get the p-locked reverbs and delays into my clips. This will be a fantastic tool.

Ahh, sadly p-locks and LFOs won’t be detected :(. That is one limitation of this patch.

As far as I am aware, the current version of Digitakt’s VST doesn’t emit any ‘changed’ event when a p-lock or LFO updates a parameter value.

Therefore, it would require Elektron to update the Digitakt to support such behaviour, which an Ableton/Max user could then exploit.

I was just coming back to ask about this. It all works great, apart from the p-locks. That’s a shame.

As a complete ableton noob Im patiently waiting on the video showing how to do this haha.
