Master Page Delay

I’m having a problem with the delay effect from the master page running external audio to the DN
it works if boot the device but when I press stop to kill the sound completely (pressing stop at least 3 times) the effect doesn’t work anymore everything else is fine drive, reverb, and chorus still work. In order to get it to work again I have to restart the DN.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Should I try and factory reset the DN to see if it fixes it?
currently on the latest firmware 1.21

Just tested it, same here. Pressing stop twice and the delay isn’t working anymore until reboot. But at least its still working if you press stop only once.

I would suggest to create a support ticket on the elektron website (you need to register). Will do the same.

Thank you, yea I noticed that it still works if you pressed it once.

I will be dropping that ticket now
again thanks for checking that out I feel better that I don’t have to do a factory reset or something.

It’s odd but i think if you just press a note on any of the 4 tracks after double/triple stopping it should come back

I could confirm it with muted tracks.

Yes I confirm that the delay is back when you press a note, or play a note with the sequencer.

Yea just tried it. Nice work around for now.

It shouldn’t bother me, but yeah, delay should at least be reactivated for inputs after play button press.

Yea it’s slightly annoying because I was sequencing through midi. But without having to shut the whole thing down makes it more workable, at least till I can find a pedal or something.

same problem. The delay switch on again only if you play some notes, by hand or by sequencer, on internal (and not midi) tracks. So seems that is a “panic function” functional issue, that doesn’t restart the normal conditions of delay on master page.
(Latest 1.30A firmware)

The support explained back then that the behaviour is caused by the architecture of the DN (no bug). Unfortunately i can´t remember any details and didn´t kept the E-mail

But i’m still wondering why it works on reverb and chorus.

The main difference between the delay effect and the other two is that the delay has feedback. It can quickly get to dangerous levels at above 100 feedback, and the instinct in this situation is to double press stop to stop all audio, so it is very useful function to have. Chorus and reverb get no louder than their input, so there is no risk of them feeding back out of control.

It seems like the synth tracks trigger the delay to start whenever a note is pressed. It would be nice if they could start the delay whenever audio of a certain level is detected on the input. This would preserve the ability to stop feedback with a double press of the stop button, and allow the delay to work on external audio without workarounds.

Now that we know it is a design choice, I have another question about: I have 2 patterns in the same project but with different delay send level (max the first, zero the second); playing them in a chain brings always to have delay at maximum level, it completely ignore zero delay level on the second.

EVERYTHING EXPLAINED!

I encountered the same issue PRESSING STOP TWICEBUT NOT ONLY
HERE IS THE SOLUTION

A - PRESSING STOP TWICE SCENARIO

1 - Hook up an external synth (preferably a drum machine to have a loop) through INPUT L/R and set an EMPTY PATTERN (no trig on any track) with some DELAY / REVERB on the MASTER FX page.

2 - Press :arrow_forward:
MASTER FX ARE APPLIED TO THE SOUND

ISSUE

3 - Press :stop_button: :stop_button: and :arrow_forward:
MASTER FX ARE NOT APPLIED TO THE SOUND anymore (at least NOT AS BEFORE)

SOLUTION

4 - Add ONE TRIG NOTE :red_square: to any of the 4 tracks (preferably on the FIRST TRIG) and set TRIG VOLUME to ZERO

5 - Press :arrow_forward:
MASTER FX ARE APPLIED TO THE SOUND NO MATTER HOW MANY TIME YOU PRESS :stop_button:

CONCLUSION

PANIC MODE CANCELS WHENEVER A TRIG IS PLAYED ON ANY OF THE 4 AUDIO TRACKS

B - SWITCHING PATTERN SCENARIO

1 - Hook up an external synth (preferably a drum machine to have a loop) through INPUT L/R

2 - SET an EMPTY PATTERN_1 (NO :red_square: TRIG on any track) with some delay / NO reverb on the master fx page

3 - SET an EMPTY PATTERN_2 (NO :red_square: TRIG on any track) with some reverb / NO delay on the master fx page.

4 - Press :arrow_forward: on PATTERN_1
PATTERN_1 MASTER FX ARE APPLIED TO THE SOUND

ISSUE

3 - Switch to PATTERN_2
PATTERN_1 MASTER FX ARE STILL APPLIED TO THE SOUND
PATTERN_2 MASTER FX ARE NOT APPLIED TO THE SOUND

SOLUTION

4 - Add ONE TRIG NOTE :red_square: to any of the 4 tracks of EACH PATTERN (preferably on the FIRST TRIG) and set TRIG VOLUME to ZERO

5 - Press :arrow_forward: on PATTERN_1
PATTERN_1 MASTER FX ARE APPLIED TO THE SOUND

6 - Switch to PATTERN_2
PATTERN_2 MASTER FX ARE NOW APPLIED TO THE SOUND

CONCLUSION

IF MASTER FX settings are different from PATTERN_1 to PATTERN_2, a TRIG NOTE :red_square: is NEEDED on each PATTERN to ACTUALLY COMMIT the MASTER FX settings to the SOUND

ONLY AFTER THAT, SWITCHING from PATTERN_1 to PATTERN_2 (AND VICE VERSA) actually SWITCHES and APPLIES MASTER FX settings to the current PATTERN being played
