What settings have people found that work well for Master Bus Glue Compression on the mix channel? Looking for subtle glue, not SC pumping please ![]()

congrats! I learned about Elektron compression from this DK video… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUDeVCxIq3Q
For the master, now I make sure the moving line indicator is just barely coming in from the top, so it’s just barely doing the thing.
that’s all I know
On my recent Electro song, I tested out only running the kick, snare, and hats through it.
Thrshold of around 50, attack around 25, release 70-80, ratio 4, sidechain filter around 16.
One thing that helped me was running it through an oscilloscope app and visually seeing the shape of my kicks and transients change with different settings.
Thanks, I’ll check this out.
Master out compression is a tricky thing to have a general setting for because there is so much variability in what is going in to it. Generally though, the default attack and release are a pretty transparent starting point if you adjust threshold and side chain filter so that the meter is only really moving on the loudest transients. One thing that helps judging things when doing an A/B comparison to the dry and wet is to set the makeup gain correctly. The meter doesn’t show reduction in terms of dB, think of it as a number between 0-1. When the meter is halfway down you are compressing 6dB. When it’s 3/4 of the way down it is compressing 12dB, when it is 1/4 of the way down it is somewhere around 3dB. By default the sidechain filter is set flat. I produce music with heavy low end so for my music it almost always benefits the sound to filter out some low end going into the sidechain.
