So I did manage to buy Maschine+, and I’m really glad I did. It’s a joy to use. The pads are amazing and I really like using it to sequence external gear - it’s very straightforward. I especially enjoy that it records all automations both from my Hydrasynth and A4. Just turn the nobs while recording a pattern and the motion is encoded into the pattern.
While really enjoyable, I wonder if there are people here who also use Maschine+ (in standalone mode) with their Elektron boxes and have any tips. There are a few areas I’m looking for in particular:
Anyone figured how to do pattern change on Elektron box from Maschine+?
I found that while easy to record automation in real time, is there a more step-by-step way of doing that, while pattern is not playing?
I’ve read that it is possible to make presets for MIDI cc one the desktop version of the Maschine and then transfer it to standalone, but didn’t find much in the manual on how to exactly do that and how to use those presets in standalone mode?
What’s the situation with Maschine in controller mode with Overbridge VST? I couldn’t get sound through the plugin for some reason. Anyone tried this workflow?
One thing I can’t figure out is how to create a preset for an instrument that does not exist there. For example I want to control Analog Four MK2, and there is no preset for it there. I could not find anything on making presets from scratch.
Hey can you explain how you can do that ( record “turning the knobs”) I have maschine+ and a couple Elektron boxes and other synths and I only succeed to record my macro knobs mùovements in maschine + not my synth knobs movements
Also If you want to create a macro for your synth, use maschine software to create / edit macros, then save your midi macros as a sound in the sd card
if anyone knows a place where people share their macros ( like on squarp pyramid)… let me know ( there are not so many provided by native)
Also please elektron let us do some " midi sounds " with our best midi CCs presets so we can have better use of the midi tracks ( especially on digitakt)
I’m working on presets for Analog Four and Analog Rytm, if you’re interested. Will probably take some time until I’m happy with it. Because it is impossible to rearrange pages and macros, every time I have to swap something it’s a hell of copy paste on the desktop Maschine.
Regarding recording automation - it’s quite easy. Make sure that your hardware synth is both sending and receiving MIDI CC and those are on the same channel. In Maschine you can set MIDI to both send and receive as well. For example I have Analog Four plugged via
USB into Maschine+. A4 is configure to send and receive MIDI on track channel. When you turn nobs on your synth, while a loop is playing, hold AUTO button on your Maschine and this will be recorded and sent back to your synth when the loop plays next time. You can’t really see the value or anything in the interface and if you need to change something you have to clear automation on the pattern and start over, but at least it is something.
THX !
I will give it a try, didn’t think the automation button would work from midi inputs and especially for non mapped CCs, but this is great news… it’s pretty strange that you have 2 record buttons on maschine ( record and automate)
Agree that we all need to adjust our midi presets but it would be a time saver to have 1 place where many presets are shared. I’m interested in your AR preset BTW, I’m just starting making mine (AR/DGTN/DGTKT / PEAK / VIRUS) … time consuming and not so fun, I like your automate solution better
Also pretty strange but the prg change macro command doesn’t seems to work ( tried on Novation peak only yet) trhis should be the command ( with bank) to change Elektron patterns
I’m not sure if this would work as I don’t have an Electron anymore. But you might try to input a CC message into a Maschine clip/pattern that will change patterns on the Electron. So now every time you trigger the clip/pattern on maschine it will change a pattern in electron device.
You could do a similar thing with Ableton session clips.
Alternatively you could use automation clips to change sets of parameters in a similar way
Actually I have some tips, that works for me with digitakt and maschine mikro, it should work with maschine + and other elektron boxes :
in maschine menu, set midi change to send/receive midi program change when scenes are changed, set the channel to 10 (corresponding to digitakt autochannel)
do the same in the midi sync menu of your digitakt.
set a midi handshake (midi in and out for both device)
Now, you maschine scenes are linked to your digitakt patterns, change on either of your device and the other will do the same
(Beware of midi loops though, set maschine and digitakt in way that they are not both midi thru)
Is anybody using the Maschine+ as a slave together with Elektron devices? Would be interested how tight the midi sync is. Also are arpeggiators and retrigs working on Maschine+ in Slave Mode?
Perhaps a stupid questions, but years ago I had a Korg EMX and the touchstrip arpeggiator only worked when the EMX was the Master…
Sorry to resurrect the dead, but I’m just about to set out on this with a new maschine (doing a hard return window test between this and an mpc for external gear sequencing and recording) and this thread took me to you- who have all my gear. Did you ever end up doing all of this and do you have the sounds saved in a shareable way?
I’ll say in early testing - I’m liking the maschine workflow more but I love that adding a midi instrument in mpc program change info is right there in the main settings so it’s like loading a patch. A major downside is that’s only one per sequence so if you explode your song to a long sequence to mix down you’ve got to go back an re add all you patch changes in the events view one at a time. Still trying to figure out how this is done best in maschine.
OT crossfader sends CC48. Whatever you map to CC48 will respond to OT Xfader.
You have to use a midi processor if you want to remap to another CC though.
