Maschine is so different from pre-renaissance MPCs that the workflow/ feature set of either isn’t replicable by either, going from an mpc to a maschine means you’re decidedly looking for a different instrument imho

fwiw, I have the best touch screen ever to use with the Maschine+, and so far, it’s been a great pairing of gear:
I really enjoy sequencing the iPad with the M+, and using great generative sequencers on the iPad to sequence the great synths on the M+
For me the MPC One synths are not very good…I can never find a good patch to play that I like for the type of music I make, whereas the M+ has a bunch of great sounds, so I can use it and the iPad and my Gear and bring it all together in a single session, which has been really nice.
On a side note, I plugged in my SoundCraft 12 MTK, and all 12 Channels showed up and I was able to play audio from the M+ to the board via the USB return, and use the 12 MTK to tweak EQ and add Effects to the sounds the M+ was generating…pretty cool that it supports USB Audio Interfaces to really expand it’s potential in studio.
I’ve also been told that the ExpertSleepers MultiChannel interface also shows up. I’ve also tested the Scarlett 18i8 with success as well…
Tubedigga sounds like he’s able to coax some nice sounds out of the MPC synths. But yeah, presets sound pretty meh from what I’ve heard… I’m not much of a preset man.
Yeah, he’s amazing at what he does. I’ve learned a lot from watching his videos.
I’m fairly new to INIT synthesis, so I find it better to start with Presets and tweak to my liking ( I just struggle with the MPC synths…and give up, and rely on Samples, or the iPad or my hardware gear to fill that synthesis void).
Making music is all that matters…regardless of how you get there. Whatever allows ones originality to come thru is the goal…these are just tools to achieve that vision we each have. I love that we have access to so many toys these days…it’s almost too much
For what it’s worth…
Bought a Mk3 on release , it was ok but another “method ” for want of a better turn to learn. Learning maschine made me rethink where I was with Ableton and actually helped me re-engage with Ableton in a much more productive way.
I occasionally open up maschine to use it for playing pads and chords but all my hardware jams get tweaked in ableton and I feel really happy with my itb/otb life
In short Maschine felt like an unnecessary half way place that was only another distraction from making music
@echo_opera absolutely true. In the end, these are just tools helping creativity. And what incredible tools…
But when you have a fairly limited budget, you wanna get the most bang for your bucks, and that can makes us forget that there is more to it than just a sum of “can do / can’t do”.
Yep. It’s a Win-Win either way you go IMHO between M+ and MPC.
All i can say is that i really hope Akai enables Audio streaming over USB. I just had a great session feeding the Maschine+ into my SoundCraft 12MTK via the USB returns to 8 different channels which i then EQ’d, Panned and added effects to before finally sending them to the iPad with AUM running Velvet Machine and boy was this ever a magical experience.
I can’t see why Akai wouldn’t enable the Live device family to support external Audio Interfaces…it’s just too good of a workflow enhancement and I’m just glad we can do this on the M+.
I hope Akai implement this as well… they probably are thinking their user base is trying to get farther away from the computer rather than closer but still, they added Ableton export on the mpcs and had the nerve to even add export and import on the akai Force which I wish every beat machine maker would do that!
You should always remember: devices are not all built the same. You don‘t go to your bicycle and tell it to run 200mph because your car can do it and you don‘t see a reason that the bicycle cannot do it.
Not that I say it is not possible, but in the latest time, people tend to compare devices and demand that feature will be enabled that they want to have. There are a 1000 reasons why device A has a feature and B does not. it might be technical reasons, limited resources (Octatrack is at it limit cpu wise), developer respources, priorities, maybe no one thought about it. Even if the device would be able to hardware wise, sometimes software is not. If you forget about something in the beginning of a development process it can be really hard to change it later on.
No one thought about plugging in an external soundcard to a grovebox until Native Instrument did.
I read so many post on the last month like „cannot be that hard“, „should be easy“, „a has it, so b needs to have it“. I think that is very unfair behavior. It like:
Why don‘t you release top100 albums all the time? You are a human right? You play with musical instruments, right? Like all those who do. Should be easy, right?
Well to be fair, when Akai enabled USB Host mode on their Live devices in April, the subject came up on that day with a lot of us. I think they’ll do it, but if they don’t it’s no loss for me since I’ve found my GrooveBox to gel with and grow to love more each day

exactly. On GS we were discussing even before the 2.8 update that it might be smart for Akai/Nukai to support class-compliant USB devices for midi and audio expansion duties. It makes perfect sense, as there are just computers running inside (whoops, there I said it
)
Finally went for the more modest Maschine Mk3. Thanks for the advices, guys!
cool! Let us know how you like it! (or not
)
Will do! I’ve already watched a bunch of tutorials, and I’ve installed another SSD drive in my computer for all the soundbanks etc.
So I experienced very few bugs in the MPC or Force, I definitely wouldn’t call it a problem. I also am not experiencing CPU related problems with the + and the Ni plugins on the + ARE optimized for the platform.
Did not like the MPC. I like the force a lot, and I LOVE the +
what are the features from each of them that are vital to your compositional workflow?
Good external sequencing, a way to tightly and quickly capture lots of sampled loops, scale and chord modes (Force is far better with custom user progressions), and on maschine the synths and sounds. I do a lot of great stuff on the maschine with just a launchpad pro or KK A49, or if need be solely on the pads. Force wouldn’t be worth much to me without plenty of external sounds.
Speed
The ability to quickly and easily export stems.
I wish the maschine had the Force’s user chord progressions. The chord sets are rather useless for improvising as I have to take the time to think about what I want. The harm feature isn’t great because they are simple 1-3-5 or 1-3-5-7 and lack inversions which makes for poor progression.
Maschine with improved file structure and user progressions with greater kontakt support or auto sample would make everything else obsolete as far as I’m concerned.
