I bought some small genelec monitors for my octatrack setup but the problem is the main outputs are very loud I have to turn down the volume the in mixer to -62. -64 is mute!
Is there a workaround ? Now my synths and external gear is extremely low in volume even when “dir” is set to 127 when playing live but the songs and playback are extremely loud ?
i have the master volume knobs turned way down on my studio monitors. that allows me to send a much louder main out from the octatrack without blowing my ears out. i set the monitors close to -20db and set the octatrack main out somewhere around unity gain.
sounds like part of the problem may be the mix of your different tracks as well. try turning down the volume knob in the amp page on your tracks that are too loud.
Are you going directly from your octatrack into your monitors? If so then you may need a mixer or something in the middle. I remember doing this once with my digitakt (straight into my genelecs) and the levels even when turned very low were dangerously high
Pressing [FUNC] and turning the LEVEL knob will affect the MAIN parameter of the MIXER menu. This parameter controls the volume of the main outputs. Use this key and knob combination to quickly adjust the main volume of the Octatrack MKII.
When STUDIO mode is activated, LEVEL and [CUE] + LEVEL control the sound sent to the two output pairs. This mode of routing overrides the default routing mode. For more information, please see “8.6.1 AUDIO” on page 35.
the input sensitivity is activated but it is still way to loud.
I have a oto bebe cherry mixer but my routing is like this:
Laptop, syntakt and my Nord lead synth are connected to the mixer and the main output is goin into the octatrack and the mains of OT -> genelecs 8010.
With this routing I can choose what I record into OT and I have the volume control of all the gear on the mixer.
If I connect the OT to the mixer I have to record into OT directly and there is only 2 inputs…thats my dilemma
There is a recording possibility with that function:
Whenever a channel is muted, the signal is routed to the Alternate output. You can use this output for recording purposes or for sending the channel to an external effect.
This is a great idea but the problem now is the alternative signal when muted is like 20db lower in volume. Is useless because recording when listening to the playback is impossible you can’t hear the signal.
Turning the volume up and and then unmute is very loud……bad design on the French part or could it be the input of the OT? direct monitoring is max
A pad or…bad settings you made ?
Should work as they mentioned it for recording purpose, would be surprising.
This alternate/mute stuff is present on some Mackie mixers (Alt 3/4), and recommended for live looping recordings.
I’d check gain staging, new project.
Or send me your Bébé Chérie !
Maybe it works only in France.
maybe im wrong but there are not many settings. on the Bébé there is none and on the OT is the mixer tap main volume 0, dir 127, gain 0.
With this settings there is a huge difference in volume when unmuted and muted to the OT.
I will check again later and maybe connect 1 speaker to the channel output and one to the alt and see if there is a volume difference but I have to say this little French beauty sounds nice even in Germany
