I love to write a pattern on my MD, turn on Live Recording, and start turning knobs like crazy to record parameter locks. What I love is that the MD only records p-locks on steps where I’ve already placed trigs, so the groove isn’t compromised.
I never use this approach on any other Elektron boxes though, because I end up with 1/16th step trigless locks that create all kinds of horrible stepping. Even if I put a slide on every step, the result is still spasmodic and less interesting to me than the way the MD works. The only partial solution I’ve come up with is to Trig Mute all the steps I don’t want, but this is a pain and always leads to confusion for me down the road (why are all these trigless locks here? why don’t I hear them? oh right).
Does anyone else feel this way? Has anybody successfully implemented a workaround to get MD style live recording out of their other boxes?
I use it regularly on OT, A4, AR, DN, also tryed on MS. Stepping didn’t shocked me.
What parameters, what machines? (A4/A4 I guess, having trig mutes).
I’d like to do this on OT, MM, A4, AR, and DN. A4/AR are the only two where trig mute workaround is possible. I’m sure lots of people love the current behavior, I’d just love a workaround to get that glorious MD style live sound.

So what parameters bothers you particularly?
I’d love a recording mode on existing trigs only!
I mostly plock trigs directly, use random lfos with hold mode. I use live rec sometimes, oftenly on pan if I want to save lfos. I remove trigless sometimes.
I also love to record TRCs in live rec mode!
Feature request btw : make TRCs active for the whole track, like MS Chance parameter.

I too enjoy the way the MD handles p locks only on active steps, I believe it’s like this because the MD doesn’t allow trigless trigs whereas the newer Elektrons do. It’d be great if you could turn trigless trigs off for live record mode somewhere in the settings.
