Machinedrum SPS1-UW X.12 Released [ Unofficial ]

Hi, everyone.

A friend of mine asked me if it’s possible/makes sense to install the x.12 firmware on his MD UW+ without having the Megacommand hardware.

Would he still benefit from the firmware update or would you say he shouldn’t do it.

Thanks in advance.

It’s absolutely worth installing without the Megacommand, even if only for the new drums and tweaked tuning.

Thanks for the quick reply. He’ll be totally happy to hear that.

What are the new drums again? I thought X.12 was mainly a megacommand integration update from X.11

I assumed the person in question still had the stock Elektron firmware - there haven’t been new drums added between 11 and 12.

If the user had X.11 installed, please accept my apologies, as there will be no new drums added with X.12.

Yes, my friend still has the latest Elektron firmware installed and no experience with X.1-12 yet. Cheers!

As soon as i answer to your post, i came to my MD, switch it on.
It opened at the yesterday last work, where the ctrl-al was not recordable.

When MD light up, the first thing i saw was the red light on “classic”…

I instantly saw me writing the post “yes always” with the inassurance of old pilot…
Some times i’m tired of myself

Thank for your little idea that permits me to not loose a lot of time.

Great - I assume it works now which is much better than some unsolvable problem or bug in your MD :grinning:

There are some new and really cool new features with X firmware! The ones I use most are the tonal machines! but there a lot more…I think you con find information here: Machinedrum SPS1-UW X.05: the living documentation - #122 by Claid

Are there versions of X.x that are best suited for non-MCL users?

It may be a silly question but there were definitely reasons to stay with an earlier build of JJOS for the MPC back in the day if you liked a particular feature that was written out due to space.

not silly, but in this case keeping up with latest is best practise (imo), nothing is removed (or ever will be i imagine) during updates, things maybe optimised and any bugs squashed.

Thank you!

You’ll have 0 regrets.
And you can always go back.
(Backup like always :upside_down_face:)

I’ve searched and haven’t found the answer, so I’ll ask: How do I install the unofficial firmware onto my MD using a Windows PC?

If the answer is obvious, please pillory me. Call me names. Abuse me as you see fit.

Thanks in advance…

I think you’ll need an audio interface with a MIDI DIN pair, or any other USB MIDI interface (elektron boxes do not act as go between interfaces) and you’ll then need to sysex the file to your MD. I assume that there’s a receiving mode in the startup menu maybe, and probably a preferred program on windows but usually MIDI-OX is good (and free) so unless someone says that there’s a better program MIDI-OX is probably fine.

The DIN cable goes to the machinedrum from the interface and converts USB to MIDI and like magic, you got mail.

There might be some lesser MD specific details but that’s the gist of it. I don’t think that there’s any other way but I guess someone will tell us if there is.
