That looks really cool, does it have midi ports? I’ve seen the handheld gaming consoles adapted for headless but nothing as tidy as this
Yes, it has Midi In, Midi Out, Audio In, Audio Out.
It has everything the same as the original one instead of a touchable screen and speaker.
Looks like an early prototype.
EDIT: I didn’t read the “DIY” in your post If you have the headless software installed, the MIDI ports will probably stop working when you install the latest version.
That’s crazy, is it running headless via an OS or the M8 firmware natively? Did the seller give you any more info?
Unfortunately, I don’t have more info. I will try tomorrow to connect it via TyTools, and I will check if it connects.
But firstly I will play with it because maybe I don’t need any updates and the current version will be enough for me. I don’t want to crash it
Just arrived today! BRK but I don’t see any blemishes at all, just the cool etching on the back. Will start playing with it tonight. I’ll report back with first impressions and how I get on with it.
Those BRK units look so dope. Have fun!
And if you want something a bit different from old drum machines, here’s a free sample pack of some Nord Drum 2 favorites:
Thank you!
Sadly you are missing out on a ton of amazing features that are exclusive to the hardware M8, versus your headless on an old firmware! Both the BRK edition and the regular M8 sold out as of a day or two ago, so make sure you put some research into what you’d lose if you go to the newest headless M8 firmware!
Be careful. You probably will
From my limited understanding many of the features such as midi were retired (from headless) in later OS’s
You may well be fine but I would do some reading in the “headless” channel on the discord before doing anything
Do you know something about updating Firmware?
I thought it could be normal firmware, not a headless version.
I connected it to the TyTools, and I saw something like that.
I honestly think this is one of the best bits of hardware ever made. It’s a marvel!
I would try to figure out which firmware version you’re running before you flash anything. Also hypersynth was introduced with 3.0 firmware, so if that’s not present you are on 2.x
I have info from the seller that it is a 1.3.8 version.
Yeah that’s over 2 years old, tread carefully because the github only goes back to 2.0 so unless you can pull it off the teensy somehow you will be bricked if the update doesn’t work.
Edit: looks like version 1.4 and newer involved changes that prevented the creation of this sort of homebrew m8, updating will almost certainly brick your device. Cool lil box though and still capable of doing some damage
Thank you!
For now, I will use what I have Sometimes, less is more. Less comparing to nothing is also better
If I like it, I will collect more money and buy the original one

Hi, here’s a new track made with the M8.
FM synth, wavsynth, macrosynth, a two bars loop I sampled from my Machinedrum, a Fors Chiral patch, one vocal sample and 2 shaker samples.
You can watch the 3 streams of the song in the making on my Youtube Chanel (but there’s a catch: it’s in French this time!)
I hope you’ll like it!
I really enjoyed that. If I may ask, how long do you think it took you to make?
Lovely sounds AND visuals!
