M8 Tracker

in my experience, yes!

same UX at the core, but so so many quality of life increments. And so many sound design possibilities, let alone sampling, so that’s not an entry barrier to making music.

M8 unlocked LSDJ for me; never clicked until I settled in the workflow on M8 first

I was just last week thinking I need to look into hooking up my M8 to CV. Which midi cv module do you recommend?

I only know erica synth midi to cv and it works fine.

0-Coast also does this. And a good old A4.

Sometimes the obvious is just staring you right in the face! My A4 is peeking out at me from it’s pullout rack tray on my desk. Don’t know why I didn’t think of using it for midi to cv duties.

Thanks, saved me some money

Did anyone in U.K. buy an M8 from Dirtywave? Can you advise on what the total cost was including import duty + VAT?

I see some 2nd sellers asking for £750-800, but it’s only $599 new so I want to know if it’s just worth buying a new one.

I think that buying new you should be around £750, with taxes and transportation.
But it would be new and under guarantee.

But second hand is available right now…

And… you’re buying one ?

I’m selling my beautiful AR to fund and make room for a M8.

Pre-orders on 12/12 2pm UTC.

Im gonna spend between now and the 12th to decide if I want one and then go new I think

Yes, go new. Cheaper and, uh, new.

I have had one 2 times and then sold it. Love the portability but just get tired of the workflow after awhile…so much programming…but after I sell it, I miss it.

Hmm…the 12th.

Yeah, I definitely go through phases. It’s so convenient, though, and it’s not like anything else. There are a lot of awesome hands-on, intuitive, expressive things out there, and after M8in’ a while you’ll miss them (I’m there right now, btw). But I can’t think of anything else where I’m like “running out of LFOs and envelopes… throw bunch of junk in a table… done.”

Also for stupid MIDI tricks it’s hard to beat.

And it does all this fast.

The one thing I’m struggling with – how does one work with random?

The randomize function can be done on the next step, but if I want step 1 of a pattern to be a random note/octave/repeat or whatever, is there no way to achieve this?

There are a few tricks you can use to achieve this. Off the top of my head:

  • Prime it with the previous pattern
  • Use a speed FF table to hit the random value in 5ms (so, not immediate but pretty dang fast), and then HOP to freeze to a single row after you hit your random value

Buying in June when the M8 was $550 + shipping, my card was charged £457.14 and then DHL import duty and tax was £117.59

For all those asking about if m8 is worth whatever import tax fees ! The answer is yes ! I value my M8 with my 200+ projects at about 1550$
