same UX at the core, but so so many quality of life increments. And so many sound design possibilities, let alone sampling, so that’s not an entry barrier to making music.
M8 unlocked LSDJ for me; never clicked until I settled in the workflow on M8 first
Sometimes the obvious is just staring you right in the face! My A4 is peeking out at me from it’s pullout rack tray on my desk. Don’t know why I didn’t think of using it for midi to cv duties.
I have had one 2 times and then sold it. Love the portability but just get tired of the workflow after awhile…so much programming…but after I sell it, I miss it.
Yeah, I definitely go through phases. It’s so convenient, though, and it’s not like anything else. There are a lot of awesome hands-on, intuitive, expressive things out there, and after M8in’ a while you’ll miss them (I’m there right now, btw). But I can’t think of anything else where I’m like “running out of LFOs and envelopes… throw bunch of junk in a table… done.”
The one thing I’m struggling with – how does one work with random?
The randomize function can be done on the next step, but if I want step 1 of a pattern to be a random note/octave/repeat or whatever, is there no way to achieve this?
There are a few tricks you can use to achieve this. Off the top of my head:
Prime it with the previous pattern
Use a speed FF table to hit the random value in 5ms (so, not immediate but pretty dang fast), and then HOP to freeze to a single row after you hit your random value
so it’s on general sale on the 12th?!?! did they say this on IG or something? looks like i’m going to have to yet again temporarily forget i need to save every penny right now…
