I’m prepping samples for downsampling (24 bit to 16 bit) and to mono; what’s the best way to do this in batches? Anyone know? The most salient post on Google I saw either has “spend money on Izotope RX” or is people asking other questions (like downsampling one file).
If you’re comfortable with command line programming, there’s SoX. It’s a really handy program for all kinds of stuff with sound files. You can do batches with it as well.
I’m not using the m8c, I’m using the teensy plugged into a pc and running the webdisplay, which includes a mapper.
You don’t need to convert to mono for samples anymore.
16bit is definitely recommended but unless the sound is designed mono, then M8 loads stereo samples now.
The manual still provides guidance that stereo samples should be converted to mono when both channels are identical. This is for performance, not to do with its ability to load stereo:
Convert stereo samples to mono where stereo is not necessary - e.g. Kick drums
In terms of doing this in batch I’m not sure what tricks are available. Most of the folks doing this are probably comfortable writing the code to handle it. My only advice is to make sure to normalize before downsampling.
I have been successful with libsndfile to do batch conversions. It’s been pretty reliable.
Thanks for the advice, all. I’ll begin looking into some of these, I just got my M8 and I’m super excited!!!
I use Switch on the Mac. Works great!
I’m wanting to pull the trigger on this preorder. Gonna have to sell everything but my blackbox to afford but damn this thing keep sounding good AF. The SPACE COUNTRY track on reddit is so dope
got a link?
I wanna hear
Gaia.Tree might be referring to this track by laamaa
Another track of laamaa’s, Electric Blues Jam, is what made me want an M8
cool, never heard anything like that out of m8 yet
fkn deadly
them beats are cool. & the drones. love it
Thanks
Incredible good, love it!
Thank you!
Some developments here. The USB ports on the GPI 2 case don’t appear to be functional on their own - both need a powered usb hub to work and so this adaptation isn’t viable. Bummer.
However… I really liked the idea of using a M8-powered studio from my couch. I wanted to be able to separate the “sound design mode” I usually get into when using my modular and elektron boxes, from the “rhythm and song structure” mode that I (sometimes) neglect when writing music (usually because I’m having too much damn fun in sound design mode).
So I channelled my past skills as a software engineer and hacked in some netcode to the m8c client. Warning - I am not a C coder, and I was in a rush, so please don’t judge my coding skills harshly .
Anyway, the result is this:
Realised this wasn’t posted here yet, from one of the best channels making music with Nanoloop and some Elektrons, @Sachaz
That harmonic turnaround at the end of the main phrase is so slinky. I love it
