Today I thought I’d experiment with the built in compressor and I have to say it is a really nice and convenient feature. Post recording, I usually add a little compression, boost and coloring with Ozone. This time, I went straight from render to upload. Still a bit quiet, but that’s on me. Eventually, I think it would be cool to master a workflow that just bypasses a daw entirely. The immediacy of this device keeps me coming back.

cool track ! i agree with you being able to finalise a song in the M8 is fun. You can go quite loud if you’re not afraid to hit the red in the master. i can go +5db on the master bus and hear no distorsion, even after export, that’s because M8 works in 32bit floating point.
also in my case i notice that if i can’t loud without hearing distorsion it is mostly because my mix is not good enough, needs more balance. and then no need to switch device, everything is here, (on the sofa or in the hammock) M8 power !

Are we sure it works in 32-bit float? I know that the sampler records from the TRS input in 32-bit float and then converts to 24bit on save.

no, i’m not sure, but from what i’ve understood (i may be wrong) only 32bit floating point allows to go over 0db without clipping … and as it is the case with the M8 i think it works like that and convert on save. (Also this is what wrote some other users on the discord)
Correct me if i’m wrong. But anyway you can go some db over 0 and hear no distortion.

Yes that’s how it works. 32 bit allows values over 0db.
But upon conversion to 16/24 bit it will clip.

So it allows more headroom but you should monitor your mixer and compress, limit, adjust gain, etc. Before exporting.
