Can you do the V RNL randomization in an AUX table that is called from your velocity table?
I really love this bad boy but I’m starting to feel like its just not really for me. I find it super great for programming drums and simple bass lines but really struggle to get a melody going past a 4 bar loop. Alot of it is to do with not being able to “play” notes. I know its possible to connect a midi controller but at that point I’d rather just use something else.
But still very early days, still got alot to learn and may grow on me. At the very least I love having something truly poketsized I can carry around and play with in downtime rather than doomscrolling.

This is how I felt three times with a model one and two times with the model two. I still think someday I’ll get another one.

yes i get you, unless you plug a little midi keyboard you’ll get stuck there.
Depends on the mood, idea, etc. sometimes i do my sketch on other devices where the “play” factor is better, but then the M8 still rocks for arranging the song and mixing !
But correct me if I’m wrong about the midi keyboard, how would you go about recording keys/steps on the M8?
There is no rec mode I believe.

some can explain better than me but if i recall good, midi input direct record when you are in the pattern view / the pattern view act as a rec mode. maybe chain view too, just need to try to find it out.

I use my OP-XY with the M8. It’s great for playing, and then doing some screwy stuff with the step components. When I have something good I immediately record the loop into the M8 via quick render.
I find playing the M8 with a keyboard is ok, but recording the midi is clunky. You can too easily record over what you already did, and changing midi channels is also a pain.
@Le_filou You can use a launchpad pro with the M8 and then you get a special mode for playing and recording via the pads.

Hmm. I forget if I tried that already. I think it will be too late in the chain of events so to speak but I’ll test. Either way a VEL command would be very useful. Also STA as a mod destination.

Once you set the midi in up, put the cursor on the phrase and position you want and it records automatically when you play in. It’s very elegant and spontaneous.
I would love SAMPLE START as a mod destination!!

I’m not clear why it’s only Loop Start that can be modulated rather than STA. what if you don’t want it to loop?
Sample start is just a really useful destination, on Elektron and other stuff. make hats less mechanical, hack some granular etc

How well does the launchpad pro work with playing stuff in live?. Can you play notes beforehand like sound module and then press record to dub in notes?
you can REP or RND STA in phrase or table, i think with memory constraints STA would be kind of a waste of a whole mod destination for what’s essentially just setting the initial value and then does fuck all
It works really well. There’s a 4x4 sequencer view at top left so you can tap there to add notes, or press record and play in live, or both.
Do I need the MK3 pro version, or is there a cheaper version I can use.
