OK, got the keyboards yesterday. First impressions are mixed. Of course, there are more PRO’s than CON’s. But still… You can find all about PRO’s everywhere online. For CON’s, buffer overruns cause light clicks here and there, not terrible but really annoying, when you record something, and there is sudden click, you must re-record. As for a seasonal musician, too much latency, for some sounds unbearable (for me at least). I don’t know (yet) what’s inside of the box, but I’m sure it’s based on RPi or Arduino or anything like that, so it could be fixed/adjusted/tuned with proper coding. If it is the clone of Dexed soft, it could be (just my wild guess) even re-loaded with the original miniDexed … IDK. No, don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy this kind of novelty, and I’ll continue doing so (hope for more FW updates). But as for now, it’s like you enjoy your favorite food, and here and there you feel some sand grains in your mouth… Too small to spit, and too gross to swallow. Well, my discovery continues, so be updated.
BTW, from the “Dexed cart” collection, the best for me are sounds from an AViC folder. Also there are three banks here to download.
Here is A LOT of patches (20,000+), and this is an online patch librarian which can directly upload patches to the SMK-37.
Interesting device but these are too annoying cons to deal with. Maybe sometime in the future like you said.
