Dunno what to say. Less is more?
If it helps, Im off my tits on top shelf pharmaceuticals at the moment due to contracting some filthy plague or another. Fucking humans, dirty grubs.
I figured that music was outta your little modular skiff. I be inspired now.
It’s so drummy, and hypnoticly so. Never really tried to approach Lyra in that way.
Nope. Just Lyra and Octatrack mate.
Filter envelopes and LFOs.
Spent the evening putting my rack together and then of course running the Lyra-8 through it. This is accomplished with the beauty of RME total mix. I had a small collection of cheap rack effects in the closet and I figure it was time I got off my ass and racked them up and patched them into my interface. I have effects in serial in this order:
Yamaha GC2020 - Shitty compressor but surprisingly great at the same time. You can hammer the crap out of a signal with it.
3rd Dimension BBD - Dimension D clone. Takes away a good amount of volume but makes the Lyra into a wide stereo beast.
MidiverbII - great pairing for the Lyra, I have been loving reverbs 25-29 with it.
BBE 482i - Adds depth and sizzle to the Lyra. It was laying on the closet floor so I figured why not.
End Result:
Anyway, I did a quick improv recording so you all can hear how it sounds. It sounds like a complete hellscape and I love it. The real demonic shit comes in a little before half way through this recording.
The oscillators were all pretty much dialed in with sharp totally off, and it really didn’t matter much.
any thoughts on what would be a good budgety sampler/sequencer to pair Lyra with?
Korg SQ-64 and the Ornament adapter. Some soldering required to connect the two:
Floating Points taking a Lyra to the ballet.
Mental. Love that dude.
Are there any differences between old and new versions of Lyra-8?
thx
Not really.
I’ve owned four over the years of various different vintages and although different batches do have their differences (the kind of components used mean that every Lyra will be slightly different to the next one, and with many settings, tiny differences can make a big difference), they are all essentially the same.
Some of the first ones built only had a two way switch on the LFO, but it really makes no difference when you’re playing it.
Newer ones also seem to have a slightly thinner back plate, but all are very well built and robust beyond anything else out there.
Five? (and congrats on having a Lyra in your life again of course)
Yep, Lyra number 5.
Probably won’t be my last either…
At least you seem to have settled on a colour.
To be fair, the pink is really nice in person.
And harmony was restored to the universe once more…
But not to my wife’s office.
Once you’ve bought 8 Lyras to you get a free one?
Ask me this time next year.
I was almost about to make a punch card joke too. Ya beat me to it!
