I’ve got 15u modular system. Also I’d like to add mostly semi-modular synths. Among them I already have Neutron, K-2, 0-coast, Crave, Edge. I guess only 0-coast of them includes Low pass gate. What semi-modular synths (overall) also with LPG?
Intellijel Cascadia
whether legit/interesting or not, i am unsure, but the Grind purports to have one fwiw
there’s a sorta faked ‘version’ within the cr8audio west pest iirc which might sound close enough for jazz ?
I think it’s done via a VCA and VCF rather than with vactrols or whatever, but the Pittsburgh Taiga’s dynamics section has an LPG mode.
I believe the Moog Mavis has one.
Or maybe I’m thinking it has a wave folder. There’s some West Coast elements in it for sure.
Is it to obvious to say the Buchla Easel/Easel Command?
I think that the Pittsburgh Modular SV-1 can do a low pass gate too.
I build panels with them. Not semi, (as in normalized paths) but think something between an Easel and an Animal panel… …with LPGs.
Also agree with the 208/Easel/Cascadia/etc. as mentioned above
Corrected for accuracy.
Pittsburgh Taiga has a LPG.
Thank you kind sir!
Nope. Just the State Variable Filter, from whence it gets it’s name SV-1.
Pico system 3 has dual lpgs although I guess it’s debatable if its a semi modular
However, the state variable is one of the best pinging filter types IMO. If that’s the aspect of the LPG one is after anyway. If it’s just the overall optocoupler flavor though, then a vactrol based or VCA/F setup is better.
Re the Mavis:
Wavefolder: Yes
Low Pass Gate: No
It doesnt self resonate? Can you ping a filter that doesnt self resonate?
And plus 1 for vactrols.
The Pittsburgh modular Microvolt 3900 also have an LPG, but is discontinued now.
Yes, as long as it can get close-ish to oscillating. Just hit it with a pulse, sawtooth or trigger (higher voltage is better, unipolar is better. (Bipolar will typically ping twice due to positive and negative peaks.) some filters will have an input for this that conditions the trigger a bit (some of mine do, the Serge VCFQ does, etc.) to make a consistent transient for this. Just crank the resonance up most/all the way. Sometimes the filter will ring more in the lower frequencies (depending on how it’s all trimmed, how the feedback paths are designed, etc.)
Maybe not quite the answer you’re looking for, but grab a takaab 2hp passive 2LPG. Sounds great and you could incorporate it into your other semi mods.
Doing this pretty much got me into modular when I added one to a Dreadbox Erebus.
