LØSTLVLS Sonic Potions x Erica Synths LXR-02 Sample Pack

It has been a while since I used it and will get familiar myself this afternoon after FA Cup or tomorrow.

yes, the pattern upgrades is a huge plus…resolution reduction is not a turn off to me…sub-step will help in creating a bit of rolls and ratcheting (?)…

Thank you for helping me recall it’s functions.

I’m actually tempted to get an original LXR because of the (albeit limited) sample support. I did kinda hope Erica would transfer this to the LXR-02 but I would guess at this point that it’s not on the roadmap. Bit of a shame, but then it would further complicate an already cramped interface.

I have not checked the current prices but they should be much lower…as I was just informed by Thornton the pattern extensions should make them worthwhile…I will find out this afternoon ( even though for the last few weeks I have been hooked on OPAL…)

Oh man Opal is amazing. I’ve been using it to sequence sliced sample chains imported into drum racks and it’s never failed to come up with really cool grooves.

I really wouldn’t bother if the sample import is what’s driving your choice (OG LXR). The total sample memory is anemic (500KB ish) because of hardware limitations… It’s useful to add a 808 or 909 ride or kick or snare for that authentic sound, or a strong transient sample or two or a few hats from other machines, but there’s no sample manipulation to beyond simple pitch and env and its also a bit buggy.

Sometimes crashes on loading new samples when scanning through kits whilst playing a pattern for example.

You can fit about 16 short samples in there, which have been used well by Bjorn Fogelberg in this fantastic (free!) set of presets for the LXR which give you loads of 707,808,909 sounds:

But beyond that, i.e augmenting the synth engines a little bit, the sample feature isn’t that useful. Better off with a DT/OT.

IMHO the best reasons to choose the BC firmware are the sequencer upgrades and live performance features…

I didn’t know it can midi trigger off drum racks…must be the upgraded version(?)…I use the sampler a lot and the grain for fx…it’s addictive program.

It’s Opal Ctrl, which is in the downloads for Opal. It’s soooooo cool.

You have peaked my interest here! So you map Opals standalone sequencer to drum racks with one shots on them basically, and then are you randomizing the Opal sequencer or what helps you get those unique grooves?

I will have to go in and upgrade…map the drum racks?

Absolutely! I’ve not actually posted anything I’ve made with Opal yet, as I’ve been using the Oxi One for that mainly. From now on all my packs will use Opal for the previews in some respect because it’s the perfect software sequencer for someone who appreciates the Elektron p-lock style. I can’t wait for when Push 3’s MPE pads allow us to set the velocity and note with the XY axes, as they will in time.

Just fill all 128 slots with random sounds and go crazy! You can set the pitch and envelope of the sample of each slot in the drum rack and set them all onto the same choke group, which makes it even more like a single track of an Elektron.

Imagine using Opal to sequence the pulsar. That could be the combo right there.

I bought the @LØSTLVLS Perkons soundpack, put them in my tiny Drumlogue at 32Bit floating point (Distortion is way more interesting with 32) It can not and still it can if you want…

Anyway… the Drumlogue has 2 sample play slots with a really nice up/down tune knop…
Ill would not be afraid to battle against a real Perkons

Update - the LXR-02 pack has beefed-up! It’s gone from 128 one-shots to 288 (including new categories such as basses and claps), features 16 loops recorded from the hardware, an updated Ableton Live Selector Rack (with drums and bass separate) and updated sample chains.

This is part of my ongoing quest to update all packs with new content, which has been aided by Bandcamp doubling my upload capacity!

For existing owners simply login and download. It comes at no extra cost to new users either, the price remains the same.

Enjoy!

This is awesome. I have the lxr02 but did not want to spend the time to do what you’ve already done for us all! This is going to take the Analog Rhythm mkii to a new level for me! Thank you!

Hi! FYI: just noticed BC started to tinker with Open FW for lxr-2

I’ve been wanting something like this for the LXR-02… Could be very cool if they figure it out.

Brilliant news! Thank you for the heads up! Excited to see what Brendan does next. :+1:

great news!

was wondering for quite a while if this was possible, i know that the custom firmwares written in the past such as the lxr-owl seemed quite curious and added features that were imo, reminiscent of the volca drum(!) but i haven’t ever got my hands on the original sonic potions lxr to mess with it…
