Hi,
this has been on my mind for ages but I still havent found a good solution after all these years. I am thinking something this simple must exist somewhere?
I am looking for the most elegant way to cut off excess low frequencies from a stereo audio signal. Been looking for a stereo eq/filter pedal that could do this but so far havent found anything…
I dont want to buy a whole mixer just to be able to cut out some frequencies below 200Hz from a stereo signal. How is it possible that a product for this doesnt seem to exist? Woulda thought that stage music gear companies like Radial etc would have some simple basskiler box but nothing…
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Ideally Id just need somethinng that does about the same as soldering a few resistors, caps and inductors to an audio cable does but want a robust, simple and reliable product with sound engineering best practices in the design (ie. not relying on specific impedance values, keeps the stereo image intact etc)
It must be 100% analogue though
If ever there was an idea for a kickstarter campaing, this IMO would be it. Throw in simple stereo summing to mono / mono splitting to dual mono into said box and watch all the fx pedal users in the world line up to buy it
Thanks for the suggestions, but I am looking for the cheapest and smallest solution, with the least amount of extra functions. While I have a heat, using it for this would be serious overkill and would take up alot of space, require power etc…
The Rolls SX45 is a closest match to what I am looking for, but it has rca i/o… and requires a wallwart
And when budget allows, and if so inclined, a desktop Evolver can handle stereo high pass duty plus you gain an interesting delay, tunable feedback and a fun 4 oscillator monosynth. The downside of course is that will cost 15-20x more than the barrel filters.
You might have already guessed what I need these for… Its for taming all those aux returns on mixers that always go unused in my rigs because they lack hpf. Nobody wants to mud up the mix just cause fx pedals arent (usually) bandlimited. So previously Ive always ended up using channels for fx returns, which is wasteful most of the time.
Just need to decide if Ill go for the 200Hz or the 300Hz ones… Need to experiment with some 12dB/oct hpfs ITB running through some test audio… Or maybe just buy both and see which ones I prefer with which pedal.
Even though you’ve already found your solution, just wanted to add that a used Drawmer DS-201 would be good for this with it’s analog HP filters, and an added benefit of the Drawmer is that it can serve as an excellent ducker you can sidechain too. I regularly see them for less than $150.
That looks like it could be useful for other duties… but lugging a 1 U rack unit to a DJ gig just to be able to use a delay pedal without mudding the mix, doesnt really sound practical (just one usecase out of many).
