Look at this poor mistreated Moog One

Saw this yesterday at the guitar center in LA on sunset. It’s just wild how you can’t demo some much much much cheaper products, but this is left out for anyone to mess around with.

The synth section at every guitar center I’ve been too is a mix of poorly organized, sparsely stocked, and very dirty. It’s a shame!

You can’t just walk in and play the $5000+ guitars without asking specifically to try it, I wonder why this is just out there like this.

A shame to see, but I’m glad they let you play the moogs.

In instances like this and the return of the Model D it was the only way I would be able to experience these instruments

Looks like they’ve been using it as a workbench.

Probably brought in as a used item that they couldn’t sell because of the shape of it.

GC’s practices are…really something. I know them from having worked there. Terrible company.

The Moog One at a GC in my city is the same way. It’s wild to me that they have such an expensive synth sitting out in the open. It’s even more wild that they’ve discounted the price by like a thousand dollars, but I guess an unsold expensive item is less desirable than a sold cheaper one.

That’s what I would do:
I’d go back to the shop bringing a brush with me and start cleaning the keyboard until all the dust is removed. In the meantime, record video of what I’m doing to then upload it on youtube.
Finally I’d post that youtube link here:

I returned a used item recently because it was non functional. It pained me to see it for sale again the next time I visited.

This isn’t a case where I couldn’t figure it out, and they solved it and fixed it. There is no one in that store capable of that, as most in that location are guitar guys. They don’t have anyone there knowledgeable about synths.

That sounds about right, honestly. Horrible company.

I wanted to save it like a dog/cat from an abusive home or a pig/chicken/cow from a factory farm. Just tuck it under my arm and run with it, show it love and kindness, save it from this miserable existence!

I sympathize with a lot of employees at guitar centers- it seems like a horrible place to work, with little to no support or incentive to put in extra effort. It seems like a really crappy company. That said, I do wish there were a LITTLE more TLC put into things there, but at least at my local LA stores, it seems like a Sisyphean task.

The staff at my local GC are (mostly) cool people trying to do what they can in a bad store. GC doesn’t pay anything close to a reasonable wage for skilled and experienced staff. Any time I stop by a GC, I mostly see customers abusing anything they get their hands on. People letting their small children treat the store as a playground. The amazing thing about that Moog? It has all its knobs.

Agreed with all that.

That was not the worst experience with them I had that month. 4 attempts at purchasing a Maschine+ before they gave me a new one, rather than trying to pass off an open box (that was already refigistered). In one of the boxes, it wasn’t even a Maschine+, but an mk3 the last owner tried to pass off a return on,

That sounds 100% like my experience working for them.

No one was trained, no one cared about anything. I didn’t last long there.

Anyway, sorry for being (semi) off-topic.

Damn! What did they do to it? Looks like an ashtray. Maybe they wanted to make it look more like a real vintage Moog.

She plays hard to get. She thinks she prefers to be treated like dirt.

Lord knows I would treat m’lady well.

Go back and offer them $1000 to take it off of their hands.

When the Moog One came in the shop we had a clear sign on top saying ‘DO NOT TOUCH!’
People did it anyway.

The way this Moog One looks is just insane though, clearly those working there are lazy as f and don’t give a s.

It’s really sad, but I don’t know if GC pays their employees enough to care. It’s still sad!

I kinda want to go there and ask how much they want for that floor model. If it’s fully functional, it might be a nice project to pick it up cheap, clean it up nicely, and flip it (or keep it).

Probably couldn’t get it in tune.
