Long USB cables for audio interface

TL:DR Is anyone here using a long cable for an audio interface?

I’ve read a few recommendations to keep it under 5 meters (around 16ft), but I’m considering going 1 meter over that length to rearrange some things.

My understanding is that with longer lengths there are two potential issues: power delivery and general signal degradation. My interface has its own power supply, so I’m thinking the only thing that might happen is signal degradation. I know that it will most likely work, but I don’t know how to quantify the signal degradation, to know what impact that might have.

I’m using a PreSonus Studio 68c and my current plan is to get a 6 meter (20ft) thick gauge, well insulated, USB-C cable to connect my synth desk to my computer desk.

I’ve been reading about this and I think I understand the theory, but I wanted to ask people if they’ve had any problems in practice. So, have you done this? Had any problems, like increased latency?

Thanks!

a few nanoseconds, maybe !

Get a quality brand and you should be good. Also, there are active USB extension cables that boost the signal. Can go 25m and more.

I haven’t used one that long, but I do know how to quantify it.

Space Age Bit Reduction

SABR (saber) for short.

Be careful what it runs near it might pick up noise, or introduce some to other cables - ferrite chunky boys on the ends likely help with that - my understanding is that it’s important they’re on both ends.

Nice. I have a few of those around.
