I hooked up with Secretmusic yesterday and we had a wicked time with the Rytm.
We decided that we would like to put together some Elektronauts Workshops/Parties to be held in London in the near future.
We already have venues for these workshops and parties sorted. Also of course we have Secretmusic (Stef) who will be running these workshops which if you have seen his videos is a great thing.
There is a fair amount of flexibility in the type of event we could put together but the question is now really -
-How much interest is there in Attending such a workshop
-Which machines would you like to see covered, we were thinking Rytm,A4 and OT may be wise ??
-What sort of format would prospective attendees like to see at these sessions, length of time etc
-How much further interest is there in a party type event after the workshop featuring Live Elektron acts. After our chat yesterday we have a fairly good idea of who we would like to perform at such an event but if you would like to put yourself forward to wow some of the Elektronaut crowd please let us know.
The more information and feedback we can have now will mean we will be able to sort something out more quickly and be able to give people exactly (or as close as possible) to what they are after.
I think this could be a really positive thing so hoping there is some good feedback with lots of ideas and suggestions so we are able to move forward.
Just wanted to put it our there to see what people are saying.
Thank you Neil, for getting the ball rolling. Let’s hear what everyone has to say.
Will check on this thread regularly, let us know your thoughts !
Cheers
sampling (including internal sampling)
Performing long samples (basically turning it into a DJ machine)
The use of scenes/parts (especially for performance)
Then others like:
single cycle waveform use
MIDI sequencing
sample chain use
I think that’s the most requested OT questions.
For A4:
Maybe a bit about the architecture, syncing the OSCs, modulation, FX sequencing, Sound locks, maybe CV sequencing too.
As for AR, don’t know because I don’t have one! (yet)
Format wise, think it would be good to have a lecture/seminar formats (with breaks!) then maybe some drinks before performances by whoever wants to do it! Should take up the afternoon nicely
I believe the OT is the device that most users struggle to get their heads round initially and it also works better than the other units as a performance hub IMHO so perhaps a weekend format is good. Once a month with each of the other units being featured on the second day working up to how they operate in tandem in a performance setting ?
Or how about a week’ s retreat in the Herefordshire hills with daily pre -session yoga to really go deep …and a barn party with a funktion one system and camping at the end of it? Ok, I’m fantasizing…
How are you guys envisaging it ? Workshops geared towards experience level ? Zero to hero days on a per device basis ?
I think format wise it would be cool to have 2 or 3 tracks prepared by the tutors, the project files and samples for which are distributed to participators before the event. This way they can start to examine how projects are laid out for themselves before getting the full low down on how and why things are set up the way they are in the session. Power tips and tricks section…
During the session a project could also be set up from scratch with each user following along on their own unit (s) to start to reinforce muscle memory.
Whilst I’m definitely into seeing and hearing how power users rock the machines at an after session party, I’d also like to give those who have attended the workshop (and who wish to) the chance to play out one or two of the workshop tracks through a decent system. Maybe tag style. So they’re are 2 racks set up and synched so you can jump on wig out for a while and then hand over to the next person who has captured the outgoing performance on a loop on the OT . , thereby giving them a chance to implement performance skills they have learnt. This is another reason why a pre-distribution of workshop material would be a good idea…
Just some initial thoughts…looking forward to what others have to say.
We will see if anymore momentum builds over the next few days then get back with some firm plans and ideas. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions so far.
I’m in Brighton. Only had the OT for a couple months so no expert, but I think I have most the sampler functions down. Have barely touched the midi side so far. Feel free to get in touch etc. No idea if there are any other Brightones on here.
I live in aberdeen but would consider a weekend in london for something like this. I put on a monthly live electonic night here so would be great to make some new contacts and get some ideas to take back with me.
Sounds like a great idea… there are already a few modular meets going on in London and they go down pretty swell! I’m on an AR… would be nice to get shown the ropes of the other machines and see if it’s something i’m into… performance wise… could be possible to a improvised performance with AR and a couple of racks of euro rack? Would be great to meet like minded people in general and share some tricks
Im up for Octatrack workshops in London on a monthly basis on weekends. Ideally something project based where a track is structured in a day and we can maybe download the project to have a go at what was learnt between workshops.
Generally speaking, Id love to know more scene tricks, workflows, maybe doing re-edits etc
