Hi all. I just got the logidy umi3 usb midi foot controller. It is known to work with the octatrack and because it can send system real-time messages such as stop, start etc, it should work with the RYTM, which is my goal. However, I cannot get it to work right. I’m sending the logidy usb into a midiplus usb->din midi converter and then the din out to the rytm. The midiplus to rytm is working just fine because I connected a usb midi keyboard and that plays the rytm Aok. The midiplus front led turns green with this setup.
But when I connect the logidy, the light on the midiplus stays red and nothing happens on the rytm.
Now, all that said I also independently tested the logidy directly into my MBP running Logic Pro X. I can get the logidy to send midi notes (but can’t get logidy to send and/or Logic Pro to respond to system real-time start/stop).
One additional strange thing: when I try to send a start message from the logidy to the rytm (and nothing happens), when I disconnect the usb from the logidy and connect it to my midi keyboard, it STARTS the rytm!!! Whoa…
Mhhh. I would start getting this done on the computer, because it´s easier to monitor whats happening. Tried to start/stop ableton, but it won´t work. I guess ableton is waiting for some clock input if set to EXT sync. Please try to ask logidy. I think they can help. info@logidy.com
Thx @AndreN I sent them an email last night as well. I did notice that the setup software is 32bit and supported OSX up to 10.8 or something like that. I’m running 10.12. So that might limit my ability to get the start/stop etc commands loaded on the umi3? Anyways I’ll return with what I learn.
@AndreN yes I’m liking this idea myself as a backup. I was considering that route if I used the softstep or nektar pacer so I’m glad you are corroborating this idea! But seems I can’t get anything from the logidy to my rytm and it could be the midiplus, it could be the setup software not actually saving what I’m trying to setup, and I don’t know off hand what the note range is on the rytm but i worry that the default of D-4 on the logidy is too high for the rytm so I wouldn’t know if the logidy is working anyhoo, if that makes sense?
@AndreN so just for the record, I installed midi monitor (useful!). In the umi3 app I setup the umi3 to have:
switch 1 start, stop, continue
Switch 2 program change on ch1, v0 (program change to pattern A01 on rytm is what I hope that means)
Switch 2 program change on ch1, v1 (rytm pattern A02)
I also tried to set up the umi3 via windows xp (using a boot camp install AND using VMware fusion). It also wouldn’t save the start, stop, continue. Hmmmmmm
Oh and still not working at all with the rytm…wonder if it’s the midiplus? Maybe I can plug it into a midi thru port (on rytm etc) and send that to my Mac and then see what/if midi messages are being sent?
“1) The Setup Panel can not read from the UMI3, so when you open it it forces it’s default state in the pedal (the last saved defaults are not overwritten in the pedal).
The Rytm probably needs an external MIDI clock to respond to real time message. The UMI3 does not send MIDI clock messages. The Rytm should however respond to MIDI notes/Program Changes. Issue with the MIDI+?”
So I decided to return it and the midiplus and am now going with the source audio soleman:
It says it can send real-time start stop etc! We shall see:).
