Logic Pro (Mac)

I love Valhalla. Superb algos. Fantastic pricing. Great update cycles. Stable. And really complete. From crazy to subtle, from simple to complex.

Their Delays are quite fantastic too.

I just love Valhalla.

Bounce is a great way to “resample” a track, and you can do it offline too which is nice and fast.

But if you ever find yourself in a situation where you want to record the audio of one or more tracks as if they were inputs to your audio interface, you can do the following:

  • Select one of the tracks you want to record from.
  • In its channel strip, find the output. This is right below the sends and is set to “Stereo Out” by default.
  • Click on it, and in the “Bus” submenu, select an unused bus.
  • For each track you want to record, do the same thing, routing them all to that bus.
  • Select the audio track you want to record this all to (or create a new one).
  • On its channel strip, find the input (this is right below the EQ, and probably defaults to “input 1” or something like that).
  • Click on it, and from the “Bus” submenu, select the bus you just routed those other tracks into.
  • Arm the track and record.

Routing to and from busses is crazy easy and powerful in logic. This is also the basis for how sends and FX buses and auxes and all that work, so it’s a good thing to learn.

Aaaaaaah … never figured buses could be used like that. Clever. I’ve got a few assigned to fx now, but of course, audio is audio. Thanks, man :pray:t2:

Sorry, Softube. But your tape delay is out. Valhalla Delay is just too good.

You were right, @Heyes - it is da shit.

Glad I could help!
Valhalla plugins are truly something special. Precious and special.

Can’t wait to hear how you use them.

Lately, I’ve been having ball with Valhalla’s delay running into any kind of saturation/distortion plugin.
Dist II comes to mind. Driving this hard, then hitting Valhalla Reverb with their latest algos makes for a great atmosphere.

Anyways.

Can’t wait to hear the results!

Aaand back to Softube’s reverb again. I found out, I missed whatever they’re doing with their algorithm more than I realised. And also, their straight-on workflow reminds me to some extent of what TE is doing with the OP-1, so it just fits my style better.

On that note. I’ve temporarily abandoned using a soft synth within Logic. I got Arturia’s Model D, which is great not so much for its emulation but more just as a bang on synth with some interesting tweaks added, but there’s just something about the presence of the output from the OP-1.

So now I’m using OP-1 audio into Logic, OP-1 as controller as well, extending the tape workflow from the OP-1 into Logic’s environment, working seamlessly betwen the two until it’s time for mixing and mastering, which is now done entirely in Logic.

You should try softubes soft synths, those model synths  its the ones that sound most like hardware synths that ive tried

I will  I really like what they’re doing, I’m using their Tape as well, so I’ll give it a go

I like their modular so you can use parts of the synths with other fx etc

There, I finally finished something. It’s worth sharing, I think -

Written with Softube’s Model 84 (that’s on you, @jaekae :smirk: ), not much EQ going on but what little there is, is from Logic’s own. FX are mostly printed through recordings and re-recordings, but there’s some live processing through a Softube Tape Echoes, Softube TARS-1, their Tape on the master and the XLN RC-20 as well (not much, though, just some subtle ducking tape noise), and Logic’s magic mastering tool, which I just activated and then did nothing with

Nice one  model 84 is my favorite and 80 the second fav

Thanks  yeah, it’s oddly inspiring. I had more or less temporarily given up on using instruments in Logic, figuring I’ll just use it as a place to put it all together, until I stumbled upon this - this baby just keeps delivering. Odd, given that it’s quite limited, even within the definition of limited  I’m missing another envelope, I’d love a second oscillator, wouldn’t mind more modulation - just a tiny bit - and yet it’s like it just works anyway.

51% off right now, if you want to give it a spin

this is awesome

Then one more tips is to use logics midi plugin modulator, then you can modulate any knob on the model 84 you want with extra LFOs or envelopes

Gonna pass on that one and dedicate myself to the TARS-1 now. I’m realising, the hunt for plugs is even worse than gas - there’s more of them, they’re generally cheaper but not cheap, and many of them are confusingly similar. This is a rabbit hole far worse than just another Chase Bliss pedal or samplers.

So I’m not going after more plugs right now, unless they do something really specific.

This is the way…

If you get Softube modular the modal 84 comes as separate modules and you add more oscillators and envelopes. You can add an extra model 84 osc or if you buy the 101 or moog you can add those oscillators.
