Logic Pro coming to iPad

So if you’re into MIDI controllers, the LaunchKey Mini MK3 is the best if you have a USB-C iPad.
But I found it fiddly to connect all the time, with headphones, guitar… too many cables, although I have a clean setup with a USB-C “octopus” cable (3 splits).

So I started looking into BT LE midi controllers. I had the CME Xkey a while ago, but I wanted buttons as well. I had the Korg NanoWhatever… it was dope, but I wanted proper keys.

So following Taetro on YT, I found out about this Amazon brand keyboard. It arrived in the mail today and I must say, IT’S DOPE!.

Here’s the link if you’re interested.
The YT ppl say it’s plasticy, but honestly… it’s more sturdy than Yamaha Seqtrak :)))
Knobs are fine, pads & keys are sensitive and have AT (pads at least).

I would’ve gotten the black one, but only the old version is available in black atm.

Oh and it has a cool thing like you can set a scale and it plays only that scale (which others have too), but if you set it to chords (triads, 7ths, 9ths), it plays the chords IN THAT SCALE. which is dope.
I set it to 9ths, in G minor and boy… I had some lush rhodes chords.

And the Expression pedal jack can be set to MIDI Out, so I can hook it up to my M8 Tracker as well.

Has anyone figured how to assign random colors on regions on iPad?
On desktop it creates like a nice gradient of colors when you add more tracks. But on iPad they stay green and blue.

I haven’t even figured out how to change colors on iPad at all

I really hope they’ll include remote control in the next update.
Logic for iPad as it is right now it’s not perfect, but it has everything I want in it.
Just wish I can control it via midi, at least basic stuff … macros, transport.

Was actually thinking of getting on of those bluetooth numpads / keypads, and if they has assignable keys… I can assign them to “R”, “SPACE”, “ARROWS”, because not sure if you guys tried, but Logic on iPad with keyboard shortcuts is actually dope.

I’m really hoping the next update of Logic for iPad brings midi mapping and being able to use an external midi device as clock source.

Currently trying to work out if I can use an app to take clock source from external midi and map it onto Ableton Link, which I think Logic can use as clock.

Try this:

I hope they bring autosampler to the iPad in an update. I also want auto gradient of colours.

Thanks. I don’t think this app allows the external midi device to be the clock source, only the other way around.

I’m trying to use an OP-1F with Logic, so that I can use the Logic pattern sequencer and record in sync to the OP-1F tape. I get the impression the OP-1F really need to be clock source to have a chance of keeping things in sync with the tape.

Try AudioBus. It can sync to an external clock, and also works with Link.

I would recommend you keep logic as the clock source for this combination (op-1f). For me it’s rock solid and even syncs the timeline so you can scrub freely and it will match the field!

Oh that’s really interesting, I’d not tried it for myself but thought i’d read that the OP-1F wasn’t good a syncing with external clock. That would definitely simplify things. Thanks!

In my experience it’s quite good as a slave, but very bad as master… This also goes for other hardware and software.

To be honest the nature of the field tape workflow welcomes this. I usually leave it on beat sync and manually match BPM on devices. Then you can use the transport and sequencers of other devices to print to OP-1 tape, and then still use the OP-1 independent controls to listen to and mangle what you have recorded - without affecting the other device.

I call this almost perfect. Novation… Superbooth… You can do this… I’m begging!

Only one thing missing. Apple update Logic to offer MIDI remote control. :frowning:

Yeah what a complete joke! there’s still no Mackie control support. wtf Apple!

I would advise everyone using Logic on iPad to email Apple and slam your dislikes on the Apple forum. They probably delete all negative messages (as they often do) but screw them.

They should call it Logic Express. No wait even that had more features. blegh.

Logic Pro (for iPad) 2 has been announced. It features stem splitter (4-way like Koala does), ChromaGlow for analog-esque AI powered saturation, and more Session Players like the Drummer: a bassist and a keyboardist. They didn’t mention MIDI mapping, but I’m really hoping they’ve silently added it.

Available May 13th. Works on iPad OS 17.4

Logic Pro takes music-making to the next level with new AI features - Apple.

These are some nice updates.

Yeah, they’re investing in the product which is good. I just wish they’d do some minor quality of life improvements in monthly releases along side the 6/12-monthly big releases.

Any idea on if there’s a tape-like instrument plug for Logic on iPad, like the
blankfor.ms sound or that plug he did for Spitfire? Good effects aren’t lacking on the iPad but a proper tape vibe vapour nostalgia vibe synth, I can’t find anywhere.
