I am sequencing the DT from another sequencer (as the DT has no Song mode). The DT is slave. Should the Lock Trigs / Parameter Locks still change the sound as the pattern plays? I don’t seem to be able to make it work, the pattern plays through but the parameters don’t seem to change. I haven’t used an Elektron for years so could be user error?
ps. Are lock trigs the same as trigless trigs on other machines or is that something different? The DT doesn’t have those right? Just trying to get my head around the Elektron terminology.
Since the DT is being sequenced from another sequencer I think that unless you are triggering patterns, the trig locks dont know to do anything because the other sequencer doesnt know about them nor how to tell them to do anything. Sequence PATTERNS and kick those off and you should be good. The sequencer in the DT is where the magic is. Although I fart around with other stuff too because I’m not that good at any particular aspect of music. Its all play time for me.
I’ve noticed the lock trigs change the parameters on all trigs where no midi note is being received, but if a midi note is being recieved then the lock trig has no effect.
On rytm incoming midi notes have priority over trigs on the sequencer, haven’t tried just trigless locks on the sequencer to see if just the parameter locks can happen while still playing incoming midi, but its probably as you say, I’ll test it out later…
You could try microtiming the trigless locks one notch backwards so the changes happens a hair before the note comes in, or maybe forwards…
Interesting results can be had by combing external midi sequences with the internal ones and muting/unmuting them, chocking type stuff…
Just trying to offer a temporary solution.
For the time being, cant you forgo the Prog Ch mesages, just use clock and transport, and change patterns manually on the Digitakt?
This way you could at least be laying out songs etc, time will fly by and boom, they’ll have Prog Changes working.
The sequencer is running, its clocked to my Engine. Plus they do work but only on trigs not recieving notes.
I’m not that bothered, was just experimenting really. I will send midi cc automation and parameter locks from my engine which works fine until Elektron fix the program change problem.
I kind of dont understand, why not use the Digitakt sequencer for inputing notes?
That’s the only way plocks are going to work on DT, or any other device as such.
There was a bit of discussion about trig behavior in another thread. The gist was that that trig presses override the sequences. So what I’m guessing is happening is that the external midi controlling acts like a trig press thus overriding whatever you have written in the sequence, this being the trig locks.
You might be missing my point.
Use the Engine only for midi clock and transport, NOT sending midi notes.
Turn of receive program change on the DT.
Now when you press start on the Engine, DT will run.
In put your sequencer/note data directly on the DT.
If Engine has song mode engaged, before it moves to the next pattern switch DT’s manually.
