Inspired by @CarlMikaelBjork 's post regarding contact mic sampling, here’s a little jam on the Octatrack featuring some basic samples captured from around the studio using a cheap contact mic.

Wow! This sounds really good
Did you do any mixing/ processing in post or is it recorded straight out the Octatrack?
Great work!

Thanks. The OT is going into the Heat, with a lot of gain but using the envelope follower to duck it, so it feels compressed. That’s recorded into Ableton via a K-Mix, and ‘mastered’ (in 4 minutes) with Ozone iZotope (eq, multiband and compression).
Some parts are too loud but it’s fine for a quick performance.
What really surprised me was how great the OT filter is when really shaping sounds - i.e. the kick. The contact mic source was pretty weak, but OT can sound fantastic.
