It seems Apple have (in part) addressed hardware compatibility with some iconic legacy devices - i was just going to check the state of play for third-party hacks which were the best option until recently - or maybe the third-party hacks related to the software to configure their routing
Either way, it’s come as a surprise that Apple have ( begun to or ) kept updating these drivers … it’ll possibly be a surprise to a few other users
I was genuinely thinking of picking up a new MIDI interface as i don’t always want the hassle of pulling out the MOTU, but i’ll be delighted to be able to use my old Emagic MT4 or Unitor8 … i may be guilty of assuming there were no updates and they existed, but nonetheless here are some links to drivers for recent MAC OSs for both Intel/Arm

Updated the title as there’s now support (apparently) not tried for the ever popular Midisport 2x2 (of which i have 2) - these have always been solid - especially for Nord Modular editors
Anyway - This exists now too (all of these ‘rebirths’ have been within the last few years) i read elsewhere the chap developing may have been involved originally, not sure about that, but for the brave there seems to be confirmation this will give your recent Mac a good prospect of using existing hardware
I’ll be testing out the Apple one only at this stage - just dug out the emagic mt4 and found the 2x2 which prompted a further search, yielding this …

Seems fine
Worth noting, I can’t recall whether this should be ‘normal’ or not - but when the device screen sleeps it goes into PATCH Mode (handy as a midi router, so this is intended in normal circumstances) however, it’s potentially annoying … i can’t attest if this relates to the quality of the driver or whether it’s just doing the right thing, but it’s something to be mindful of (it should be possible to create a safe patch with no i>o)
but FTR it’s happening when the Mac is resting (battery powered) - i also noted a MIDI issue with the MOTU yesterday, so this may be reflecting the battery saver status of my Mac more than reflecting the support for hardware - the ultralite needed reconnecting (Ventura) unlike mt4 which goes back to USB mode when the screen is back
