Lee Perry

As if I need to say more than just the name…

Was playing around earlier cutting stuff in & out, muting stuff, sneaking in bits and pieces with the reverb…
Just thinking…
A few individuals could have claimed to be the architects of rock & roll, or innovators in jazz, godfathers of funk, etc…
Rarely can you see such a direct, pivotal, seismic influence on so much music & recording techniques as you can see in 70s Jamaica. Dub gave birth to the styles and genres of the future like a litter of puppies. Lee Scratch Perry didn’t spend a lot of time crowing about being the first to do any of it, & there were other influences. But the sounds of the Black Ark, the Upsetter, his words, his deeds, his whole being was so otherworldly, there’s precious few like him or on his level even in the whole pantheon of artistic genius.

Gutted. Huge influence on me and one of the greats.

I have been a huge fan of Lee Scratch Perry a long time. His music is spiritual to me, puts me in a special place. Was lucky to finally catch him live about 6 or 7 years ago, and had a blast.

big inspiration for me. when i first got the OP-1 i remember watching the doc and remembered him saying all you need is 4 tracks, and i never ever felt limited because i would just overdub and commit to tape repeatedly. also the early stories of hearing rhythm in its raw form in the stone quarry. Truly empowering for me and am very thankful for his contributions and openness with his process
