Launchcontrol XL fried : (

I wasn’t paying attention and plugged my LCXL into too much power, plugged into usb hub (also fried), which was plugged into a heavy duty power brick. Lessons learned…

At any rate, I opened up the LCXL to see how bad the damage was, but all I can tell is that it looks like a couple resistors got burned out.

Any body know if this is fixable? I’m not an electrical engineer, but this circuit board has tiny components, and I’m not sure if I could buy replacement parts even.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

That looks intense. I recently got in touch with Novation for an issue on the same device (faulty pots) and their quote was reasonable.

Unless something has changed, Novation is not very keen on providing schematics. As per your photos the design is unsurprisingly based on surface mount components. Resistors maybe fairly easy to identify, however values of caps (if broken) may be more difficult to establish. I guess it can be fixed but I cant imagine this can be done be an inexperienced person.

EDIT: I have checked that the unit is USB powered only so I may initial guess seems to be not correct.

It’s also taken out U1 which could be an op amp or a programmable voltage regulator or something else. Either way it looks like a SOT-23 package.

When you say too much power do you mean you plugged in something like a 9v PSU when the device only need 5v? Just trying to work out the failure mode.

Although I’ve no experience sending any hardware to Novation I can say their aftersales/support is excellent.

Yes exactly, the portable battery I have has several outputs, and I gave it 9 or 12v as I wasn’t paying attention. I’ll give novation a note, see what they can do. Thanks
