Hi Rob, I’m just googling for answers as one does when one doesn’t have the appropriate answer so you’ll probably end up needing to speak to Elektron support.
What happens when you open the UAD console and unlink outputs 3/4 from the cue mix? I have next to no knowledge about logic specifically, so you’ll have to forgive me on that, but it’s possible that the VST is somehow reenabling a stereo linked cue mix on the Apollo unit.
I think that the ALT COUNT setting in the UAD console represents alternative monitoring and you’d want to make sure 3/4 aren’t assigned in the ALT COUNT where if you instead select 0 it should automatically disable 3/4 and then that should tell you something about the behavior as to whether or not it frees up 3/4 since you are now seeing them without an option to deselect. Even if the issue persists in a different way, if it frees up 3/4 it may point towards this as part of the problem.
I’m assuming you already looked for ay stereo links on the console channels but either way our goal is to unlink any channels which may be paired, not because you want to permanently set it that way but because you need to find the source of the conflict and then once that’s established you can set it back up appropriately from there. Don’t expect immediate results, I’ve never heard of anyone else having this issue and it’s a very specific set up which you’re using so deductive reasoning is really your best hope here, especially if the culprit is only partly OB or the ST update.
If you’ve checked to make sure that Logic is not automatically forcing stereo configuration in the I/O settings you could try performing the reset procedure on your Apollo unit, but if you completely clear the Apollo of suspicion and still don’t have an answer, then I really think that this one will need to go to Elektron support directly, so you’d need to create a support ticket after logging into your account on elektron.se and describe the nature of the issue and also methodically list the troubleshooting you performed to clear the Apollo and Logic of suspicion.
I recognize that it was not a problem until after your update so in your mind it points a finger at the Elektron gear, and I’m not saying that your line of thinking is incorrect, however if you have not explicitly cleared the other major points in this triangle of suspicion it’s very difficult to say this is exclusively an issue with the Elektron devices even if they are the catalyst.
Hopefully that at least gives you a direction to look in, and remember, if any of the troubleshooting seems like it diverts you from your desired setup so you’re hesitant to do it, I’d say do it anyway as the goal is establish where the problem is coming from and then either fix or work around that, not to create the perfect working setup on the first try.
You have a very specific issue. I regularly read a lot of posts here on the forum and this is new to me so congratulations on that and good luck. I can provide some offsite links if you think it will help but none of it deals exclusively with your issue, just the general behavior of the apollo unit and since you seem familiar enough with your hardware already I’m hopeful that you can also find your way to the Logic I/O settings and navigate the UAD console on your own.
I don’t know that I have much else to add here but I’d say once you’ve done everything you can to clear Logic and the Apollo as the culprits, you’ll need to ask Elektron support and perhaps prompt them as to whether the current iteration of the Overbridge VST is sending any type of signal which forces a stereo pairing.
It’s almost as if it’s taking the stereo out channels of OB and linking them directly to your Apollo outs 3/4 and if that’s the case, I don’t know why that is. Hopefully you can get this sorted just from the general info I gleaned from the UAD forum and support articles.
