Latency with OB and DN2 in Ableton

Hi, for the first time I tried to record DN2 in Ableton but it seems that I’ve got ~3ms latency no matter what I do (so in the other word in the beginning of a recording there is nothing).

It seem not much but when I tried to ‘transfer’ my short loops (1bar) from DN2 into Ableton and play it looped, one can hear that there is nothing at the beginning of the clip as on image:

What I did so far:

  • ‘Delay Compensation’ enabled in Ableton (when hovering mouse over Digitone2 plugin it shows 36.4 ms latency)
  • decreased ‘Plugin Buffer Size’ in Overbridge Control Panel to 64 (lowest possible)
  • according to Overbridge documentation I turnded off any USB MIDI to/from device (all is controlled now via plugin only)

How is this a bad thing? If anything, it saves you from having a clipped first transient.

If I would record whole song from DN2 I would not noticed that - so surly then it is not a problem.

But I noticed that when record clip from short loop (1bar - 16steps).
On DN2 it sound great but when recorded in Ableton and played looped then every time it started from beginning I heard short glitch. Then I zoomed in and saw this 3ms of nothing in the beginning of recording.

So either I will fix it somehow or there is a lot of work to transfer such a loops - I would need to record instead of 1 bar something like 2 bar long clips and crop them manually.

Can you record with a 1-bar count-in? If you were recording into a tape machine, you would of course record some blank tape before recording the actual song.

That’s what I get. Set your OB track offset to -3 to compensate.

I was struggling with OB + DT2 + Ableton and it totally fixed it for me when I:

  • Stopped using the audio unit version of OB and started using the VST3 version instead
  • Connected DT2 to my Macbook Pro M1 through a dedicated thunderbolt port and not through a dongle with other devices attached to it
