Latency Issue (Rytm triggered by Yamaha e-kit)

Greetings All,

I have triggered my Yamaha e-drum kit from my Boss DR-880 drum machine, Yamaha MoX6 keyboard and Korg Electribe II sampler with zero latency.

I use the same setup with my Rytm, and I get slight latency. Did lots of reading but no luck.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks!!

Are you going midi direct or through your DAW or other gear?

I’m triggering my AR with an ancient DrumKat, likewise ancient pad8 (OG Octapad FTW!), and Intried my TD10 (my god, all my shit is “vintage” and it wasn’t until this post I realized it! )…

Anyhoo, point is I’m driving my AR with numerous means of beating on it with sticks and it’s all good here…

What Yamaha brain you using? Maaaaybe try setting AR to MIDI only (turn off USB)?

I also trigger Rytm directly from a Drumkat via MIDI. I have no issues whatsoever with latency.

Hey Drumunkey,

No DAW, just midi.

Yamaha DT Xpress triggering my Rytm.

I used a Boss DR-880 as the "Brain for years with zero latency.

If I haven’t I will definitely try setting my AR to midi only.

Thanks for responding

Hey Loquat,

Did you do any adjusting to the Rytm settings aside from assigning midi channels?

Any midi sync adjustments?

Thanks!

…i’ve had no latency issues with the DTXpress when triggering the AR, or at least haven’t noticed any…have you had any luck with USB MIDI turned off? (i recall something about this but not 100% sure )

I just double checked my setting today. I really really don’t see anything special.
The Rytm is set to receive input from Midi + USB (currently only inputing from MIDI)

I have not setup the Midi Channels per voice. (Currently my Drumkat is only sending on Midi Channel 10).

Greetings Guga,

I’ll give it a shot.

Thanks for responding.

Hi Loquat,

I will double check mine.

I know when I had a Korg Electribe II sampler I had to set each channel per pad, but I forgot whether I did that with my Rytm.

Thanks!

I tried a few adjustments such as midi sync; and triple checked all my midi config settings.

I’m baffled and the latency playing drums is a deal breaker.

I’m not 100% giving up yet, but I’m considering selling my Rytm, Boss DR-880, and Yamaha MoX6 to get a Yamaha MoXF which will be my source for drums and synth/keys.

Or I may wait a bit to see if Yamaha puts out an upgrade from the MoXF.

Update: I set up a separate midi channel for each pad/track/sound.

Fell back in love with my Rytm.

Now I’m trying to load new samples via C6. First I got the cannot allocate midi message, resolved that.

Now I try to send samples and nothing happens.

I seem to go thru this every time I try toad samples. I try to make notes so I don’t continue same mistakes…

Glad you got the lag issues figured out.
I love my current DrumKat AR configuration.

Have you recorded from your drum controller into the sequencer? Did that work OK for you?

I haven’t been too focused on samples. Sorry I can’t help you.

Hey Loquat,

I kept jgetting the “Cannot allocate midi in/out port” because Google Chrome was running something with midi that caused the problem.

I am loving the Rytm with Yamaha DT Xpress e-drum kit.

In my Rytm I just build kits from Samples (love Loop Loft Simon Phillips & Matt Chamberlain), then play and record into my Roland VS880ex.

After 30+ years of recording, I have finally found a drum sound to record that I love.

Haven’t gotten into sequencing and I know very little about it.

Have a great weekend!!
