Korg Volca Modular

yeah, not sure what cheatsheet refers to tbh, but it definitely appears to be a (pink) noise output.

on the first point - I sort of wonder if what you’re doing by shorting the oscilators is creating two resistors in parallel to some extent, and the output is the average of the two oscilators, which is basically a combo of the two.

I am more of a “poke it and hope the magic smoke doesn’t appear” guy though, so sure a modular expert/electronics engineer will be along to tell me why that’s nonsense shortly

Yep. And I sure feel more comfortable doing mad scientist experiments on something that only costs $150 to replace, if all the magic smoke suddenly escapes … it’s like you have permission to just try shit. I don’t even want to look at the Matriarch the wrong way.

Personal Volca Modular update: Gotta say, i thought this was the least useful Volca for me, and it’s instantly become my favorite. Once I accepted that it was a separate entity and not something I could order around or even fully understand, I started getting a lot of fulfillment out of it. Just let it be itself, admit it does some things I don’t understand, and it’s extremely satisfying. A lesson to be learned for human romantic relationships maybe …

I never expected that patching with little ungrounded breadboard cables would be convenient … but it beats the hell out of a lot of Volca UIs. Tried to do sound design in the Volca Drum today and my head locked immediately. My logical brain understands it, but my musician brain is stymied and disgusted. Whereas the Modular is somehow instinctively usable, you can have a conversation with it.

I actually connected mine to Bastl Kastle Drum, before seeing this video/reading the book  Got some quite groovy things comming out. I have the Bastle Kastle aswell, have not connected them all together yet. i like this micro-modular approach sometimes, but it is a bit fiddly.
