Korg PS-3000 FS reissue

I mainly see these going to people who make game and movie soundtracks, plus rental companies. either way, those will get used. I’m sure some will be trophy pieces though, like any rare/expensive piece of gear.

I do…

Neither do I. It’s a lot to spend on a synthesizer. However, I know a fair few who have made it happen for their dream synths, including an owner of an original version of the Korg. All of them bought their instruments to make music with them.

Are they? Is there someone buying them and hoarding them away? I have never encountered anyone who does such a thing. I’m not saying they don’t exist (I seem to remember seeing a Syntaur video that involved collecting a Moog from a collector), but I’ve never encountered any of them. i’d like to… there are still some things I’m looking for.

In any case, you have my word that were I to buy one of the PS-3300 units sold, I’d play it. But I’m not actually planning to buy one. Probably…

There’s a (very nice) composer of the former that has beaten me to more than one object of my desire, and my own IIIP was purchased from a composer of the latter who… ahem… said it felt too much like a trophy and he was afraid he’d damage it. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is cool, and the probability that I get my Trident Mk 2 replica has just ticked up ever so slightly.

It will be interesting to see a buyer if they ever reveal themselves. But im not sure they will ever show it off anyway. I too would love one but will not be participating.

I now would not put anything past Korg’s reissue department!

Onehotrix is sticking to his Juno 60(Judy)

I wonder how many Aphex will buy…?

his advice on the PS-3300:
“If anyone out there is lusting after one, then my advice is to get a korg pe1000 not pe2000,they actually sound better than a ps3300! in a raw sound kind of way but obviously lack a lot of the features of the 3300 but to me it sounds like a fatter 3300 AND every key can be tuned if you remove the secret panel below the kybd!!! unlike the 3300 which can only tune 1 octave to microtones, which is actuallly my fave thing about the 3300, its microtonal capabilities and why i wanted one so badly…no other analogue polysynths had knobs for microtuning! So shit, been looking at ways to mod existing poly’s
but i also got 3 pe1000’s currently being midi’d, they r bloody great beasts n all.”

WHOA!!! This is pretty incredible to say the least. I suppose I could afford this if I started selling a large chunk of gear…

Yes! The PE-1000 is the one I mentioned further up in the thread. I used to own one actually, it sounded simple but great.

Everyone who is driving a more expensive car than a Corolla could make a lifestyle adjustment and afford one of these.

Everyone who is driving a Corolla could also make a lifestyle adjustment (sell the car, stop paying insurance, take transit) and afford one.

Guitar players will spend $10k+ on rare vintage pedals, and far more on actual guitars and amps.

I couldn’t say how high microphone prices go because I know Sweetwater doesn’t carry the really premium stuff and the prices at the top end of what they carry scares the GAS out of me:

I draw two conclusions from this:

  1. I think there is a market for premium electronic instruments
  2. I’m happy for Korg to go out and get that bread

It is difficult for me to get upset when Korg has released so many affordable synths. I don’t feel like a few extremely expensive ones will seriously keep creative opportunities out of creative peoples’ hands.

Part of this is because when I raced sailboats in San Francisco, the boat I usually crewed on was roughly comparable to a very nicely maintained early gen Miata, and we regularly beat up boats in the lightly used Ferrari price range.

Marketers want us to believe that we need the most expensive thing to have fun, but the reality is that you can often find a way to get the premium experience without paying the premium price.

I’ve got one too (non ‘P’ model) and can confirm it’s simple but great!

Several types of people.

Musicians
Professional Musicians
Nostalgic Musicians
Nostalgic Synth Nerds
Synth Nerds with plenty of studio space and disposable income
Recording Studios
Movie Studios
Game Studios
Sound Designers
Colleges

Granted it’s not for everyone under these categories, nor is it limited to these categories. These are just some of the types of people and institutions that may be interested in this.

I know someone personally that probably just had physical heart palpitations when he saw this. I’ll have to ask him later.

Personally, I’d rather have an EMU Modular if I was going to do something like this. So it isn’t for me. Nor do I have the space or funds for either currently.

I’m a couple of them, but still don’t have money or space. Which then retroactively makes me none of those things.

Incidentally, the person I mentioned above, just got back to me with “I’m already measuring for space in my studio.”

There are about 6.5 MILLION households in the US who have at least 25,000 USD per MONTH. Someone will buy it

edit: not sure if musicians are among those of course

Also, some people have kids, and some don’t.

I have four kids. I wouldn’t trade them for anything! But if I never had them, I would have no problem dishing out for synths like this.

They’re crazy for this one. Looks like the rare Ps-3000 will survive another century (? Are these made well?)

Just when I thought Korg was done dropping new gear for NAMM, this thing appears.

I wonder what more surprises from Korg await us this week. Will probably blow up Elektronauts again.
