Korg OPSIX

It feels much more premium this way. I don’t know if it s the weight, the removal of the keys or both.

Thanks, just checking to make sure its not thr stuff that melts as used by elektron, arturia, novation, moog etc.
Absolutley hate that stuff.

Yeah!
So far my Syntakt has no problem, but I’ve had a few plastic handles on storage cases do that. A cheap garden shovel. A two channel Zoom recorder I used to have.
Nasty!

Also just dropped an Opsix MKII. As far as I can tell it’s double polyphony (kinda unnecessary), aftertouch (any improvement on the old keyboard is an improvement, I guess), and some new presets. Very, um, “interesting” new product day for Korg.

Whoa, where do you see that?

Soft opening, I guess :man_shrugging:

How come this is not on Korg’s website?

[edit: old link] Version 2.0 | opsix-fr - ALTERED FM SYNTHESIZER | KORG (France)

That’s version 2.0 of the OS though, if you check the specs it says 32 voices.

I had the mk1, but boy, this was a plastic mess. I sold it - the vst is good enough…

I saw that in the specs and I’m genuinely curious - who needs 64 voices on a monotimbral synth? Even playing huge chords with extended release times, I always felt like 32 was plenty. Not complaining at all, I’m impressed they kept the $699 price point for the MkII even with upgraded specs (and presumably a better/ more expensive raspberry pi, but I don’t know enough about that to even speculate).

Here’s an Opsix product I’d sell gear, do extra work, and save up for…up to the tune of $1000 USD

• 4 PART MULTITIMBRAL
• 3 sets of Stereo Outs
• Bigger Screen with more dedicated front panel PAGE buttons to eliminate page diving.

Like, seriously, they have a great synthesis and FX engine, but package it in a toy.

thank you, exactly.

Sweetwater said $700 USD for MkII before they yanked the page.

I don’t get it.

edit: I know what that means, but I don’t get it why they waste potential.

My uneducated guess is that all those MKII versions were created because of a redesign for a different Pi, hence no additional updates or features other than something that more computational power can give (even if most people don’t need it).

I’m very happy with my Opsix MKI

(Edit: Ordered Opsix Module because surprising lower price than MK2 Keys etc.)

Whoops, disregard my comment about the Mk2 not having aftertouch. I just realized I was quoting the page for the Version 2 firmware on their website and not info about the Mk2 hardware. I deleted that post.
