Korg NTS-4

Video from long time Volca user(not me).

Cue buttons, stereo send/return, steel chassis, usb powered, eurorack compatible, effects… I like this a lot! Shame there’s no logue SDK support, that would be next level, but still a very cool device.
I wonder if it’s possible to connect mono signal to stereo channels.

Haha really!? Maybe I’m from the future.

Aahhh … then I have a few questions about another device and the firmware for it …

Tbf it’ll probably be fine , their cheaper diy things are ok after a while .

I like this person, but this is unfortunately one of the worst examples I’ve seen on any piece of gear. Maybe they were in a rush and didn’t have the time to review their work before uploading it?
I saw another one that also has a good bit of maybe USB noise in it…

I really hope this isn’t a common issue because otherwise I think NTS-4 seems great.

this Kors looks less plastic and flimsy compare to the Zoom l6 which has very flimsy knobs and made of all plastic

I prefer the Korg

I mean there where no proper reviews, so im not sure what you case it off except press fotos. Is it maybe a bias against plastik?
Thats fine, but the metal is in no way universally better, so i’d wait for proper comparisons.

Its universally a problem with single usb port power (which is why tonverk and pro audio that uses Usb power comes with 2 ports, one for power one for data). In most cases its not the device but the power source. I rarely heard any of that usb noise, but in most cases i power them of power banks which usually dont have that problem. The device has a 9V connector for that reason i assume. Would be interesting if its pedal or volca polarity.

Yeah I’d hope if while it’s getting 9v power then the USB port only does data. Maybe that would alleviate the noise.

Oh sweet. Page 10 of the manual.

Yeah otherwise there would be little point to the seperate 9v imho. But good to see a confirmation

I tried the Zoom and did not like the knobs and tbe overall quality - so i got a Jellymix - but i think and feel the korg is superior to the Zoom

Funny timing, I might have bought this a few months ago, but I have a Tascam Model 12 arriving in the post tomorrow so my mixer needs ( and recording needs ) are going to be fulfilled soon. I’m pretty sure I’ll be happy with the feature set on the Model 12 if not the form factor, so I don’t think it’ll be a regret situation.

This one looks nice. I absolutely loathed the NTS-1 but the oscilloscope looks cool and so does this.

Half of the price would be ok. How can this even compete with established brands? For that money you get mic preamps, phantom power, HI-Z inputs, EQs and balanced outputs.

Portabilty and usb powered are rare. I only know of the zoom L6 thats comparable, what other options are there?

Most mixers take 12v which can be supplied by almost all USB PD PSUs by using an adapter from Birdcords or MyVolts.

I see your point that sometimes, every centimetre counts when it comes to portability.

I started watching that video yesterday, as soon as he chose the send effects yet didn’t turn the send pot in the instrument channel I just turned it off.

4 x stereo minijacks, and a stereo send do it for me. I have a k-mix, which is arguably way more capable, but the cabling is a mess.

I would use it with TE stuff, the M8, and an iPad for fx and Loopy Pro.

Because some people just want a small mixer for DAWless jams and this NTS-4 may scratch that itch.

One one hand good point, forgot that, on the other i found it suprizingly hard to find a reasonably priced PD->12v and had to buy a powerbank that provides 12v because none of theones i had did (and none of my power suplies provide 12v)

But with a comparable feature set (6 ins, the korg FX which are rather nice, stereo send/return, cue) i cant find anything even close to its size.

2 cases i can think off: a small desk setup with volcas and other compact synths: if the mixer is the size of all your synths, its not proportional.
Portable live sets/traveling live setup: if you are traveling every inch/gram less is a benefit.

Or if you are a hobyist in a dorm room or tiny flat.

O now have an old behringer mixer and theoctatrack.

And sounds really stupid, but the behringer mixer has no off button and has a chunky power suply, so i rarely connect it. The OT also needs the big cables, more effort for configuring (i should just set up a template project) and space, so i often lose 20 minutes untill everything is set up (including making space on the desk. I have no dedicated synth table/studio space)
So i get the alure of a really small footprint mixer with a compressor at the end of the chain, but im also aware that i really dont need any more gear.

I am thinking something like this for my ipad/DtDnII combo when traveling, since outbox8 is coming soon with this could be a nice paring. Only difference is that zoom has 6.35mm(1/4 inch) jacks, same as outbox(dt dn as well) ,and Korg is with 3.5mm(1/8 inch).
