the first gen NTS1 is running on Arm Cortex M0 and new gen NTS1 and Kaoss pad runs on Cortex M7, I don’t know the memory differences, but cpu is way more powerful.
If the specs/requirements from the SDK matches up for this puppy: https://github.com/korginc/logue-sdk/tree/master/platform/nts-3_kaoss
Then there’s only 3MB memory available per effect running. That’s like 1 bar worth of looping max
But you could run at half / quarter tempo like on a normal fx box to get longer delays etc.
This thing looks like a lot of fun. I saw online somewhere that they aren’t supposed to start shipping until June. Is this correct?
Also based on the typeface on the display I think this is going to be henceforth named the 'Hao55 Pad"
I want one
Ohhh. I love my OG Kaoss Pad, and think it’s a really under-valued bit of gear. This is an interesting development.
Ordered one the second they announced it, still waiting for Thomann to update the shipping date. Says months on the site
I think this’ll be a wicked addition to my setup as a send effect, if i like it maybe i’ll grab another for master fx too… we’ll see
Ordered on my side.
@DavidL : some other retailers are annoucing around mid july.
Would it not be around 18 seconds (at 16bit/44KHz)?
So 9 bars at 120bpm. My maths may be out though. Even 4 bars would be plenty for me.
I’m currently using a KP3 and a circuitbent KP1. They’re great tools for mangling!
Urgh… waiting sucks, at least with the DT2 all i had to wait for was the shop to bag it and ship it with domestic postal service
It’s 48khz, not sure if it’s 32 bit float format? Also it’s stereo. Now, my math might be way off, but here’s my stab at it:
So 1 second would be (48 000 x 2 x 32) / 8 / 1024 = 375kb?
Even if it would be 16bit you’re still way over with just 1 second
Edit: scratch that, there’s 3MB of ”external” available, if that’s for each effect then you’d be set for around 9 seconds as you say yeah
Ordered as well
Anybody could find the manual?
Sounds great and seems really cool for live use. I wish it wasn’t so fragile, it kind of defeats its main purpose…
I’m so sad that the newer, bigger Kaoss Pad that recently came out isn’t more like this. I would love to have a more fully fledged version of this tiny fella’.
KP3 is great in many regards but the FX were more quantity than quality. These seem to have an impressive amount of control and parameters, although the interface seems quite painful to operate.
I’ll check the MIDI implementation, maybe they can be accessed via MIDI and have it next to a FaderFox controller for easier access to parameters.
All Kaoss Pads should be like this
Programmable.
I agree the Replay is disappointing in the actual Kaoss pad department (and even the sample playback cannot be done by XY) -
But I digress
This looks the business.
It actually seems like a totally different company this NTS.
Build it using Eurorack aluminium grade panels and make the form factor 3U mountable on Euroracks, maybe that’ll increase the appeal as an performing send-return FX unit? Oh the modular line level headroom too.
It’s a $170 buck device, I’d prefer Korg to keep the price low.
You can mod it to your liking on the other hand.
This turned out way cooler than I was expecting.
