This is one of the weirdest demo videos I’ve seen. Hipnotic. Totally unique.
US retailers keep putting up a page for it and then taking it down (sweetwater put up the page at the initial launch announcement but pulled it, perfect circuit appears to have pulled their page for in the last week). Every time I’ve asked they haven’t had an estimate at all of when they might get it. Korg seems to be having a really hard time getting this thing out, or they teased way too early.
That’s batshit, I love it
What I really like about this video is how much they don’t care if it sound a bit shitty
Korg continues to baffle me over the past couple of years. I’d rather walk on my own lips than to criticize, but from where I’m sitting it’s one puzzling release, setback, and flub after another. The benefit, I suppose, is that we get the GAS inducing mark downs on Reverb a year later.
And, yeah, that demo a few posts up was a wacky one. I was baffled by that, as well. But then the world baffles me at this point so I dunno…
Quick update.
Got Thomann on the phone - was about to cancel the order and go for the HydraExplorer instead.
Apparently, EU stock is on track for late October. Not getting my hopes up.
Dates jumped to 9/12 weeks because pre-orders are now full for the first batch.
Gotta say I don’t know what to expect with this one. Demos are weird. Loopop’s video was great, same for Cuckoo’s test.
But I expect it to be half lemon, half gold. So, a golden lemon of sorts.
If it ever sees the light of day in the EU, I’ll make sure to document it a bit.
For now, this second iteration is one of the weirdest release I’ve experienced!
Just ordered one here in Australia, should be here in the next couple of days, I will come back and leave some detailed commentary - very hard to get any sort of impression at the moment.
(The liveliness of) My pre-order is (probably) in your hands, sir
Salutes
They had 4 on display at Synthfest Sheffield yesterday and had stock you could buy there and then. There was also a pretty nice show discount, about 10%.
I had several long plays with it. Honestly I thought I might have bought one, but something about it made me wait until all the reviews are in. I wish the keys were a bit bigger, although they’re comparable to my Reface so not really a deal breaker. I wish it had aftertouch.
The UI was surprisingly quick to get my head around although I found the display a bit cluttered and a little hard to read under the show lights. I enjoyed the sequencer and the looper. There was something about the interface that wasn’t 100% though, I think maybe it needs a couple of firmware updates to really nail it, but I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong.
Couldn’t fault the sound. Finding an init patch was dead easy, which is more than could be said for a lot of other synths.
I like the styling and the case felt and looked good.
I’ll probably pit this against the minifreak at some point down the line.
Some sound demos here:
Still debating with myself over the MicroKorg2 or some kind of combo such as HydraExplorer and some Boss vocal pedal.
My - very particular - reasoning behind the purchase of the MicroKorg was to use it as both a desktop synth and small MIDI controller in my home studio. And having the commodity of the looper and the vocal facilities made for a great package in a great form factor. And feeding it MIDI while recording it into the DAW made for a hassle free solution.
But I’m still 50/50 on its place in my workflow.
Great video from Loopop, as per use
Hell yeah. Been looking forward to this since its announcement. Got my order in at Perfect Circuit. Hoping they actually have it in stock, sometimes they get cheeky with that and it’s a stealth preorder.
The Loopop video sounds really nice. The FX are extremely good - which isn’t surprising, the OpSix has lovely Fx as well.
Still no split, only layers. Are they even addressable via 2 different MIDI channels?
The looper is nice, but it’s a gimmick, I’d prefer a basic sequencer but I can see how some prefer just audio looping.
It looks deeper than V1 but not any easier to program given the lack of knob per function.
The screen looks great, colorful and readable.
The problem is that, today, at 600€, there is plenty of competition.
I am selling mine as too much of a PITA to use.
your MK2?
what do you mean? it’s programmed exactly like the V1.
Curious to know what’s your main gripes with it !
the convoluted way to program it and lack of good manuals. So obtuse.
