Korg Kaoss Replay

Saving master fx chain presets or ‘favorites’ is fire too! Resample runs through the master fx so you can save a favorite for drum machines, synths, vinyl recordings and such. Saves alot of time for cleaning up samples.

Another nice tip, thanks! I’m looking forward to getting it, for sure.

To me, all the effects demoed on Loopop’s video sound very much like Turnado on my laptop/iPad - not bad, but not super-good either.

I don’t know, is there any recent Roland gear he hasn’t covered yet?

I think the kp3 was one of my fav tools ever
I also think it was a success for korg
Also it was half the price
But in those days, everything was half the price

I’m slowly checking out the videos and reading the manual on this new kaoss pad… must say it seems messy A F. I trust korg… but hmmm. Will deffinently need to use one hands on before even considering it at that price.
So 34 channels audio out over usb. 2 for each pad, so if play the same pad on 2 differnt banks what happens?

I don’t like to be hyperbolic when talking about gear, especially when I’ve not used it, but after watching that video the only thing I can think about is what a complete disaster the design of this thing is. No sequencer, no portable powering options (maybe a larger battery brick will do it, put certainly a smaller portable battery is able to power the 404), RCA ins, 1/8" aux in, terriably thought out UI (can’t perform or trigger your samples when in edit mode), a noticeable lag when switching between sample pads, and the price tag of this thing, with mini usb?!?!
This really feels like Korg has had this all done and ready to ship years ago, bit COVID happened and they shellved it. Or perhaps Korg just rushed it to try and compete with the 404. I don’t know, but there are so many brain dead design choices that are shocking to me. I have to imagine that Korg will hopefully firmware and add some functionality, but they’re not known to really roll out the big updates, and continue to support and listen to users (see the SQ64, which although not a terriable sequencer, lacks a lot of functionality, and could have been so much more had Korg firmwared some of the user suggestions, and not rushed it’s release). I can only assume this will be taking a nose dive in pricing. I’m not too hip on Korgs profits, they have some really amazing sellers (Volcas, the logues), but Jesus, they’re doing a good job offsetting those profits with some questionable releases.
Here’s hoping they’re able to do some more work on the pad post release, and get some updates to the firmware. I’d love to see it be a success and inspire other companies, but as it is, Roland are set to gain sales as reviews will undoubtedly compare this with the 404, and side by side, the 404 is a lot more attractive.

That 3.5mm audio through seems awful until youve ever tried to use 2 kaoss pads together. But if your buying $2,000 worth of kaoss pads… surely you can afford a dj mixer.

I thought kaoss pads were supposed to be fun and instant. This has too many small buttons and functionality to be fun, surely?
it’s got me thinking about firing up my old kp3 though.

That price is insane. Why would anyone buy this?
Seems like they’ve made everything as boring and difficult as possible.

I think it will be really cool
And the price, well uhh, it doesn’t need to have many options to be expensive. It looks strong and heavy (unlike 404 plastic ugly toy), and a great looper with fx and extra samples (like a better kp3+) is always welkome.
My kp3 with its ‘manual’ used to give me the feeling this device comes from ‘another culture’. One of my fav tools, unfortunately I broke 2 of them, went on with the ot

Do you all actually like XY pads? I mean they’re nothing to hate, obviously, but in my experience two knobs is always better and anything more complex is also better with just a single programmable macro knob. Maybe that’s just me, though.

This seems like another direct-to bad gear episode.

$1k for a kaos pad with samples but no sequencer? LOL WHUT?!?!?

Never… that would raise the value of my complaints exponentially.

on another note though, I do wish the Replay had a crossfader, per channel EQ, and a whole different sound to the FX because it sounds like you could get the gist of the fx in prior kaoss pads.
I understand that that might have been what korg wanted, to keep a legacy sound… but imo the market they are aiming for craves a different vibe fx wise… subjective I know

Hey Korg gets uber points for not making a screen that looks like the sp-404mk2 :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I have to say I agree with all of this… I’m sure it’s been said many times, but I can’t help but feel that Tatsuya Takahashi left one hell of a void when he left.

I always hoped for a new Kaoss Pad with some new features/enhances, specially since KP3 is very close to a perfect transition looper/fx box for us DAWless performers.

My wishlist, just because:

  • Optional auto-mute of the input source when you finish a recording.
  • A way to select what is affected by the XY pad (input/loops/both)
  • Updated, better quality FX, and/or some way to customize them (think Eventide H9, custom FX on other Korg equipment, etc)
  • Better I/O
  • Longer loop recording?

I think that’s pretty much it. I always like its immediacy and build quality, specially at that price point. It’s also, IIRC, the only equipment I bought several times (3 or 4, can’t remember)

EDIT: oh, my music. here’s a recent one
