They’re saying that they’re not doing this to replace their licensing model, but to give people an opportunity to use their instruments as well.
From this perspective I don’t oppose it

I can’t find anyone making plugins that began offering subscriptions that also moved away from the old model of selling licenses.
And for that reason I have no desire to “hop off the bus”. I’ll just stay on the same bus I’m already on rather than transfer onto the monthly payment bus.

No - dont think so at all - I wont be spending any more money on NI stuff if this is the direction of travel. I have done in the past. I wont in the future - not sure what is self-contradictory about that… ??? (Maybe I’m missing something ???)

Oh - I’ve bought Komplete in the past. I won’t upgrade it in the future. They aren’t stopping their Komplete purchases, just testing the water with a subscription model as well. I’m voting with my feet…
NI makes a load with folks who drop $200 each two years upgrading their Komplete licenses anyway. I see this scheme as adding another option for those who want it.
That may not be you, or me, but the market will decide.
Kush, Plugin Alliance, Slate, and others have been doing subscription bundles for a while and none have abandoned the old model. Why drop a revenue stream?
Wouldn’t upgrading in the old way be a vote with your dollars to help give them reason to retain the old model?

Imho it’s the thin end of the wedge, it’s been on the cards for ages, I’ve got komplete 12 and that’s as far as I’m going now…
Okay, so it’s a “curated selection” of NI stuff, not all encompassing. For the price, and seeing what’s included, doesn’t seem worth it to me.

SUPER curated. I suppose it’s nice if you’re into massive x but can’t afford it, but dang is there not a lot there.
Though, being able to try the entire NI library for 20-30 a month might still be a good deal even if its renting.

I’m not against these subscription models. It’s just another way to pay for something and it’s not exactly a new concept. I also know how tough the music software business can be from experience so I understand the “steady cash flow” argument.
That said, in this case it just doesn’t seem like good value. I assumed it would be e.g. the entire Komplete standard package, not this teeny subset.

It would be better imo if they let you curate your own selection of instruments. Like 10-15 of your choosing out of the entire catalog for 10 a month.
