Koala Sampler App

I do this sometimes, although if I import the audio file into M8, the transient detection won’t always match what I had in koala. This is mostly the case when there aren’t clear audio gaps between each slice. I would really like the slices to match so that I’m able to recreate specific phrases in the M8 (which I started in koala)

For sample chains, you can import the samples into a folder in AudioShare. Then load AudioShare as an IAA in AUM or similar and “play” the samples in AudioShare and record them in AUM. This also works for external devices eg OP-Z and I imagine an octatrack sp404mk2 etc.
Jonaten liljedahl the author of AUM and AudioShare is working on an AU3 version of AudioShare with access to the updated iOS file system.

Oh yes and sample crate does this natively.

How about this: in Koala you can drag a pad onto another, and there’s an option to add it to the end. You could use this to build a sample chain, with no timing problems.

@ktips Thanks for the tip, but my main issue is with the tediousness of this type of process. I use sample crate, but unless I’m missing something, don’t you have to load each individual sample before you can create a chain?

@Mistercharlie omfg, I had no idea that you could do that. That’s the way!

I assume that’s what you were trying to suggest to me initially but I was thinking that you meant doing it in the piano roll. This is way less tedious though. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: now that I’ve actually tried it I’m running into issues where certain samples are out of tuned or have strange warbles. I assume it’s a bug. Hmph

Initially, I did mean the piano roll, but I just read another tip about dragging sequences on top of each other to do the same thing (create a “sequence” chain, and then export as stems), and I realized you could do it for samples too.

Nice one @Mistercharlie -I am going to try the koala trick. The workflow I described was pre sample crate (and maybe pre-koala) when I wanted to get a chain onto the OPZ. Usually the samples I wanted were in a folder anyway.

I think we are really saying that file management on IOS is painful however you do it.

Ive had Koala for ages but only just recently started playing with it. I like it. Very different to what I do in the studio, and I can take the ipad anywhere and just make sounds. Good for chilling in the evenings.
Here’s the most recent sketch.

Anyone using the Noise Machine (NMSVE) Bluetooth controller with koala ? Useful accessory? Pointless?

The use case is holiday gear, with iPad only. Latency is allegedly sub 10ms.

Big update coming tomorrow according to AudioBus forum.

The major updates have been incredible so far (samurai chopping, stem splitting, EQ per track).

Hoping for some additional FX, maybe fx slots per sample or optional buses, and/or external fx support

I’m super hyped for this. Praying for sample groups, as matching volume/pan/tone/EQ across chops can be a bit of a ball ache.

True!

I’ve used it with Koala. It’s a fun little controller but without velocity sensitivity it’s probably easier and just as effective to use the touchscreen, maybe even quicker too.

I bought the DIY kit mainly just to have a project for myself and it’s a fun and easy project if you want to flex soldering skills but it’s kind of a gimmicky midi controller. It works but… I dunno. Hasn’t been too useful for me.
