Nicknamed MF’Buggy for lots of reasons.
Yeah MFBs software side is always janky as hell. Heard the exact same thing about the Dominion Club and the Tanzmaus. Shame, because all of those sound brilliant in demos.
Haha! I get that. I’ve had a lot of really ugly gear and it doesn’t bother me but I’ve seen that sentiment in enough friends to understand it.
For whatever it’s worth, I like black and orange together. Kind of an “everyday is Halloween” vibe that excites the kid in me.
I also love black and orange together - there’s just something about the way this synth looks though that really turns me off to it. Truth be told though, I have not seen it in person so not sure if it has a different effect when it’s live but from the online videos… does not look good to me.
I’d probably get the OB-6 just because, but recently the UDO Super 6 also is very tempting at that price point.
In actuality however, I’m still enjoying my Analog 4, which cost me a fifth of that $2500…so that’s the poly (4 voices) I ACTUALLY got
they really do. All of their stuff
For <$2,500 pads and ambient/dark/cold vibes, I’d stick with my Prophet~Rev.2
Take inspiration from Lolpop’s recent DeckardsDream video. Buy a decent reverb
(Other gear on my bench: Prophet~6, OB~6, AK, AS-1, Nord LA1, Subsequent37. And while all have their strengths, I’d keep the Rev.2 if I could only have one)
I know what you mean. The OB-6 sounds like it’s actually breathing like a sentient being. When playing deep brassy sounds it rips and snorts like bull about to be released. and its basses make my monosynths blush.
Regarding it not being versatile, i’m always surprised at its depth and range when i reach for a preset. You can get a lot of mileage out of sync and cross-modulation.
Last week, a friend of mine swapped his MFB Synth Pro for a P12 with another person. I said what! At least, you gave him money to compensate and he said no. What a steal!
Indeed! After that reverb one would still have enough money for a decent poly synth on a $2500 budget.
I’ll sell you my Lead A1 for $1,000. And you’d get change.
Like someone said, eventually every synth will be named
My 2 cents: Virus TI2, still an absolute monster. I have one and Rev2 and have no real gas for other synths.
I would probably go with the Hydrasynth because Peak/Summit is lacking in the Panning department (no individual panning for the Oscillators). I know that you can use UniSpread in the Voice menu but it’s not the same thing at all.
I’d go with either a Nord or OB6. Both sound great, and offer quality sounds and construction. I have an A1 and love it’s streamline approach. They made it much easier to hammer out sounds fast with some really clever ideas. Doesn’t feel limiting at all, and allows for 4 different sounds to be played individually, stacked, or split on keyboard. The OB6 is a modern classic. What an absolute wonderful product, bringing two legends together to create this amazing synth. Sounds great, easy to program, and is more than capable of creating just about any sound imaginable. The Summit is a nice shout too, but I’m as familiar with it as the other two… You could buy a bunch of lower priced polys, but why complicate things when one can do all the jobs and streamline your work flow.
Start throwing a bunch of external lfos and envelopes at it, and oh my god. Worries about OB-6 versatility are out the window completely. I was concerned about limitations until I started incorporating this workflow. But now the spacetime continuum is rent asunder daily. Heavenly machine.
Lovely! I think it’s an awesome (niche) idea to make such a focused set of presets. Would buy something like that instantly for my Peak. Or in my case, if someone made patches in the Radiohead / Thom Yorke vein, I’d be all over it.
(In the long run it obviously makes more sense to have no ready-made presets at all, so you get to know your synth better while making your own patches.)
+1 for Rev2. Lovely synth. Super versatile.
Got the MicroMonsta 2 yesterday and its an absolute gem!
For €300,- the build quality, the user interface, the features, the sound, it’s all there and better than I expected. Can’t wait to see what 2.0 will add. I’m now thinking about buying a second MM2.
To answer the question what poly synth I would buy for 2500,- I say I’ll rather buy a complete setup for less than that. I love expensive gear but been there, done that.
Hmmm. So many out there, so I’ll narrow it down to currently in production:
Waldorf Iridium
Novation Summit
Arturia Polybrute
Moog Matriarch
anything from Black Corporation
