I’m swapping out stuff that I would be selling for cash so slightly less painful…

I mean, that’s the best case scenario as long as you won’t miss it, but recognize when you’re getting something prestigious at the cost of something utilitarian, or also difficult to replace. How much it will inspire you is definitely important, but also how likely it is to keep your attention is also a very difficult thing to predict. I’m not going to try and convince you to abandon your own happiness in lieu of “good sense” but make sure you think it though, because I love the juno 6 and it’s what got me into synthesizers, but there’s no place in my life for a juno 6 and I know it. unfortunately.

I hear that, I feel like I might want to play it more than my arturia mini keyboard, and thus the muse is more likely to strike!

I hope it does friend! Get inspired when and how you can! But as a message to myself, try and do it without spending money when at all possible!

I absolutely love the ob6 have all your synths too. And used to have a 106 as well. I like ob6 over the 106 . The analog 4 is a nice synth as well ob6 and A4 are very different .

Maybe you could keep the As1 and sell the a4 to get the ob6 . Later might be able to pick up a A4 mk2 for even cheaper if you still want it . The mk2 sounds better to me.

But having so many sound sources could be great as well and you can use the A4 to sequence the juno .

lovely suggestions thank you - I would love to have a nice clean desk space with a few choice items that I get inspired by - this is how I started with two items and made hundreds of songs, then got into GAS and made lots of jams without direction now I want to streamline and create a setup that I understand so digitakt, rytm mk2 and either ob6 or juno106, at the moment leaning to ob6 for the sem sound character and internal sequencer/arp but of course the smooth smooth sound of the Juno is there and could easily be sequenced by the digitakt…also I agree that I could aim high get the ob6 and later retrace my steps back to a4 mk2…will see how it pans out this week

OB6, but I have an Obie fetish, and I love how that state variable filter sounds when being swept and modulated. Maybe choose the one that gives you the sound you particularly like best.

This would be a fantastic rig. OB6 without question if I were choosing.

Can’t compare it to anything as the OB6 is my only hardware synth, but it’s the most beautiful of things. Occasionally I get stuck with it, especially when I’m approaching it as something to program rather than play, but when I let go and start just playing and turning knobs it’s incredible. As it’s Halloween tomorrow I’ll confess that I once made a patch that sounded so creepy it freaked me out and I turned all the lights on in the house. Not completely unseriously considering eventually getting a second one.

I had a Juno 106, used it on a few tracks, one of voice cards broke, I sold it, picked up an OB6 desktop a few years later still have it, love the sound and modern architecture. Both are great, wish there was a new 106 “Analog” desktop maybe Behringer will finally step up?

On one hand you know and can use every classic sound the 106 puts out, the OB6 is still being explored and creating new soundscapes.

Maybe borrow the Juno and sample the patches you love and get the OB6 for now!

I never managed to make much music with the OB-6, it was too big and too nice sounding, and I always ended up just playing massive chords and not making any music with it.

For me I would go for the Juno as it’s more of a generic synth (without the chorus), and I mean that in a positive sense. At today’s prices it doesn’t feel like good value for money, but its simplicity and musicality might make it feel worthwhile.

Deepmind 12 desktop is an amazing analog synth that does juno pads really well.

looking more likely for Juno 106 based on a few variables not least keeping the a4/as1 for modern sounds…buuut then I’m running a busy (for me) rig which usually signals creative death…best option bin everything and only use digitakt! good night…

Nothing would be the most reasonable choice but we all know from experience that nothing is never going to happen. So enjoy your OB-6

The OT is only 4 voice poly midi, is it not ?
That’s such a shame, a little more would have been nice.

Regarding the synth I’d go with the OB6, simply for the reliability.
Junos are getting old and that means potential expensive repairs etc.

depends upon how much the 106 is… currently if you get a decent enough deal, you can get the 106 and get new chips for it for the cost of an OB6. but OP says his prospective 106 is in good shape already so…. sock the difference away for future repairs?

also, alternative idea: Udo Super 6? it’s kinda between the two, is modern and thus likely more stable.

I had the Juno 106 for years and I can say it is phenomenally overrated! It’s an okay synth but not worth anywhere near the prices people are asking for it, not even close.
Never owned the OB 6 but I had the Oberhiem matrix 6 and that thing sounded incredible. Sound for sound I would take the OB any day.
