Hi everyone! I’m proud and happy to announce the release of my latest project, a sample pack of the Jomox MBase 11 kick drum synth!!
The MBase 11 is basically the kick drum module from the Jomox Alpha Base - the techno monster - but smaller, more affordable, and useful for saving patches without the kit/pattern system of the latter! I found it way more fun to create kicks in this module, and it’s found a permanent place on my desk for the punchy and flexible analogue kick drum goodness contained within.
This sample pack contains 192 one-shots - these have been recorded clean (straight from the hardware, with slight EQ to enhance the fundamental) as well as through a variety of effects, both hardware and software - the Elektron Analog Heat +FX, the Sherman Filterbank, four guitar pedals (ZVex Fuzz Factory, Revv G4, ZVex Box of Rock and Silver Overdrive), iZotope Trash 2 and Arturia Coldfire.
There are also 64 Transients included in this pack - these are very short ‘impulses’ that define the beginning attack phase of a percussive sound, in this case, kick drums. Jomox put a lot of thought put into the attack phase of the MBase 11, and I wanted to showcase some of that hard work.
This pack also features a 48 Loops – these are two-bar recordings sampled straight from the MBase 11, which are designed to help you get a feel for the sound of the device in action! You can of course chop them up in a sampler or use them as backing to your own arrangements. These were also recorded clean, as well as processed through the AH+FX, Filterbank, Trash 2 and Coldfire.
Of course, this pack contains Sample Chains – seven in fact - so anyone who enjoys the flexibility and experimental potential of sample chains can get stuck in… Plus, Octatrack users will be happy. 
Each individual sound has been carefully and respectfully tweaked to gently tame unpleasant resonance, remove super low-end where it’s not required and more or less unify the sample volume across the pack. This ensures the samples sound tight and juicy right out of the box, but allows enough headroom for further processing down the line.
I was pleasantly surprised by the MBase 11 - I had a blast making these sounds. Fun fact - the MBase 11 unit sampled for this pack is the same one Nick Batt reviewed for SonicState many years ago! I bought it off him when he put a bunch of SonicState stuff up for sale, I couldn’t resist.
